Replaced all the files in the System\Win32_x86 folder with the files from the same folder of the GOG version of the game
Mapped F1 to one of the back buttons to be able to view and dismiss help messages, as this seems to be the only in-game function that has no controller button assignment.
Enabling the in-game SSAO option breaks the graphics completely
All in-game prompts are displayed as keyboard or mouse inputs, though the default gamepad layout is pretty similar most other FPS games.
Save data is deleted when the game is uninstalled. No Steam Cloud support.
As mentioned in the game's PCGW article, you can replace the .exe and .dll files in the Win32_x86 folder with the files from the same folder of the GOG version to remove the Tages DRM, after which it launches and plays wittout issue.
Since I own both the GOG and Steam versions of the game and was unable to find a reliable source for the files anywhere, I've uploaded the ones from my GOG copy to Google Drive for anyone to use, here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Y4WMd4lijkJHTzQ_UxrwGP5VGOmnD55o
Unfortunately, even though the files are taken directly from an unmodified GOG-installed version of the game, Google detects the dvm.dll file as a virus. So to use this patch will require a bit of faith on your part, at least until others can verify that it is working and safe. All I can say to put you at ease is that this is my 822nd ProtonDB report after 3 years of contributions.

To apply the patch, delete all the files in the Chronicles of Riddick - Assault on Dark Athena/System/Win32_x86/ folder after the game has finished downloading from Steam, then copy the replacement files over.
(The goggame-1207659070.dll file is very likely unnecessary, but I left it in there just in case.)

Game fully unplayable
Steam version errors on launch with tages copy protection error. The GOG version, without tages copy protection works perfectly.
Very minor occasional gaps between polygons on character faces. Character models "shake" during elevator & med station scenes
If you can source the GOG version, the experience is pretty much flawless. Buttery smooth 120fps with no major bugs so far.
GOG version does not work - OpenGL Error Steam version does not work - driver/admin rights error
Used previous user's recomendation of replacing steam files with gog files
This does not work at time of writing

Error window upon launching identifed by this WineHQ report: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=27228&iTestingId=100661

Broken by DRM
The DRM fails to install because it doesn't have administrator access.

The Steam version is flat out borked because of TAGES DRM. However, the GOG version is DRM free and gets a platinum rating. If you own the GOG version add it as a non-Steam game and configure it to use Proton as a compatibility tool. Alternatively, you can replace the contents of the Steam version's folder with that of the GOG version.

At first start, there is a TAGES (some sort of DRM) installer which fails or complains about not being an administrator. I tried some no-CD cracks (from Steam forums), which seem to resolve that DRM issue. But it still fails to load with inexplicable module errors. "unknown module" or "module init error"

stops when installing tales drivers. continues to run in the background, but nothing else happens

fails to install "tales drivers". complains about missing administrative rights
