nGlide and dgVoodoo mods
Lots of jaggies due to lack of AA.
Recommended to play with a controller or joystick as a mouse and keyboard is unplayable.
Maybe with mods (that I could not get to work) this game would be playable. But as it stands, I am unable to paly it in it's current state.

Crashes before main screen
nglide
I believe I have nglide installed correctly, because I could choose Voodoo Card via the launcher, and the 3dfx logo appears prior to attempting to launch the main game. However, I still just get a blank screen, sometimes the mouse cursor very briefly changing to the in-game gauntlet icon, before it crashes. Same behaviour I've always had (except for the 3dfx logo), over a few years of trying with various protons, including experimental and GE variants.

Works out of the box with Proton 8.0-4 and SteamOS 3.5

Added mouse on track pad
Unable to type for naming player profile or using cheat codes

Need to install nGlide via protontricks
Everything works fine with nGlide (just google it;) installed correctly through protontricks explorer.

used the amazon version for me: installed lutris, added lutris-GE-Proton8-7-x86_64, run the install.bat to add the registry entries, changed Runner Options and enabled dgvoodoo2 run rogue.exe. now on the game hardware Configuration, configure the 3d card to dgVoodoo Run the game with "Play Rogue Squadron 3d" from the launcher.
Switch to Steam Gaming mode to have correct resolution.
windowed mode has wrong resolution in desktop mode. have to play in Steam gaming Mode
能玩就是Amazing things.
I didn't notice any issues except that the default camera goes way too far. You need to switch to a closer camera
Subtitles are sometimes difficult to read
You need to switch to an older proton (5.0-10) because with the default proton, the menu will be black. Other than that, it runs fine. You must switch the camera in game because the default one is crap (very far away of your ship).
Requires either mouse or touch screen.
Latest Proton doesn't load the main menu(though you can hear it and press buttons). Switch to Proton version 5.0-10 and menu will load & run smoothly. Launcher requires use of mouse. In-game menus require keyboard for naming your save profile and for entering cheats. I created a controller profile called "Steam Deck Support" that does proper contoller mapping; it also has the pop up keyboard on L4 and trackpad mouse for the menus and launcher.

You can get it to run through wine in desktop mode (unplayable since the screen is rotated), but all attempts through Steam end in crashes or blackscreens before even seeing the menu.

Proton 6.1-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton 6.1 from GloriousEggroll, https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/6.1-GE-1
I use a Logitech Extreme 3D joystick and the rudder twist got mapped to throttle. Flying was also a bit inaccurate, but that's to be expected with an older game like this.
I couldn't type a name for creating a new savegame and had to use the randomly generated one.

Disable steam overlay and launch game with Proton 5.13-4. To get the best performance launch the .EXE with Wine Program Loader.
No adio during the full game which made it a silent gameplay.
All of the blaster bolts are missing so is the deatils on the ships.
When the game loaded in it became windowed mode and trying to do fullscreen freezes the screen.
menu is nearly impossiable to navigate
Crashes about all the time when selecting a mission
Intro starts but menu is black.
If you can navigate blindly in the main menu...
Main menu is just a blank black screen. However if you can navigate blindly (press enter many times), when entering the Mission selector it works fine.
If you can navigate blindly in the main menu (just press enter). Quitting: In the main menu wait till the lightsaber sound is played then press the up key once then enter. Wait for the R2 sound then press right once and enter.
I sumbited a fix request to this title on Proton's Github page, please do it as well.

The main menu doesn't render (just black screen). However pressing enter twice (press enter wait for sound fx, then press enter again) brings up the level select menu and game can be played "normally" from there.
Launch options use : -s 3 -f 4 -l 4

The main menu opens and after setting up the 3D hardware, clicking Play Rogue Squadron: FATAL ERROR. Could not initialize HAL
Then pressing enter the game exits.

Out of the box the game doesn't work on Proton with WineD3D (DX7), only a black screen in main menu after the intro video. I copied dgVoodoo2 files, set ddraw to native with protontricks GAMEID winecfg and then the game started to work with DXVK (DX7 - DX9 - Vulkan), main menu is visible and you can start a game, but after the mission video, the game crashes again.

Plays the intro video and goes to a black screen.

I tried everything (D3d11, Esync etc.). The Launcher does show up the Analyze computer option gives and error message that DirectX Dignostic Tool not found. Clicking on Play a blank screen comes for a few secs then the game quits (this reminds me of GTA: SA on 3x ver of proton).

Starts to a black screen, nothing seems to work to make it run.

As previously reported - menu pops, but game process loads to a black screen.

Main menu loads, asks for setting up video driver when launching game. Only choice is "DirectDraw HAL (Driver : D3D) (Driver : D3D)". Then, game won't start (black screen). Didn't try any of "Disable Esync", "Disable D3d11", "Use Wine D3d11"

Loads to a blank screen, process has to be killed afterward

Loads to blank screen

Loads to black screen.
