Everything felt kind of wonky and unresponsive.
Tracking is smooth on SteamVR 1.19 with Nvidia but the game's performance under Proton 5.0.10 is noticeably worse than on Windows. However, it's playable even on very high difficulty.
Some notes on installing mods with Beataroni: I realized Beataroni gave me problems when running it on my second drive, even with su rights. Mods installation was without issues on a clean Beat Saber install on my main drive inside ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/...
It also seems that when switching to other Proton versions the game would not work anymore, e.g., the menu wouldn't show text and there is a weird huge blue panel all over the place. This is easily fixed by running Beataroni again. Also, my modded setup would crash every time I chose anything higher than Proton 5.0.10. I did not test previous versions.
Cannot move character
Cannot move character. Tried it with keyboard and controller.
Mods work! Ignore what some others wrote before me.
Blue sentinel, Wex Dust, and even Honest Merchant work on Proton 6.3-8 via WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xinput1_3,dinput8=n,b" %command% in the game's launch parameters (otherwise identical installation to Windows). Well, the only problem is that if you use Blue Sentinel, your controller most likely won't work anymore. The game tries to launch and basically freezes when a controller is plugged in but loads just fine otherwise. I assume that with the xinput1_3.dll, Steam's controller management gets overridden. I tried a bunch of things in the game's Wine prefix but to no avail. Would be awesome if someone who figured it out could post their solution here.
Another thing I have noted (but only on Arch) is that I get the smoothest experience on Proton 4.2-9. While all others Protons (including various GE builds) never drop below 60 FPS, it still feels like playing 30 FPS. I believe it's controller input related (or maybe frametimes but I doubt it). I recommend this older version of Proton if you encounter the same issue. However, you won't be able to run Blue Sentinel on that version.
I tried all of this with a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
Failed to load the anti-cheat module (even with Proton EAC runtime)
Must launch steam in offline mode
Some framedrops
Make sure to launch Steam in offline mode
Sometimes neither my keyboard nor controller would work. Restarting my system would usually fix the issue. Also my controller would stop working every now and then. After 5 minutes of playing with the keyboard instead, it picked up the controller again.
Would freeze sometimes in hmd but monitor output continues at not even 1 FPS.
Works great. Using Proton 6.3-6 greatly reduced stutters during scene transitions.
