PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=4:0,1,2,3 %command%
protontricks 386180 renderer=vulkan
when not forceing 4 cores, artefacts show up
initial menu has a offset, does not apply to the actual game
when using wined3d in opengl big performance loss
mangohud doesnt work in game but it does in the initial menu, usefull for diagnosing what renderer is chosen.
wont start with default dxvk and new proton

I tried launching the game with Steam and proton using all the launch commands I could find, but it didn't work at all (there were big spikes and a lot of graphical issues).
So, I installed bottles and added the Crossout executable from ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Crossout/bin/WIn64/Crossout.exe, and it worked out of the box !
If it helps here are my settings (default bottles settings for me) :
- sys-wine-10.9
- dxvk-2.6.1
- vkd3d-proton-2.14.1
- dxvk-nvapi-v0.9.0
- fsync sync
- Windows 10
- all of the cursors are turned off except for "Discrete Graphics"
Hope it helps ;)

just need play window mode and if mouse dont work alt+tap fix it game configuration probably ot saved [Except window mode]
Play on Window (NOT full screen window)-if cant run select on game launcther " Legacy GPU compatibility" for first run
Sometimes your mouse not capured just alt+tab and is fully fixed
Some times a little freeze lower than 0.1 seconds
Micro freeze sometimes 0.1 seconds or lower
Game Configuration NOT saved (except window mode) keys maps sensibility etc not saved
Just need play window mode If mouse dont work just [alt+tap] fix it Game configuration not saved [Except window mode] reconfigure sensibility etc again NOTE: if game cant start select in game launcher [Legacy GPU compatibility] and runs

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Every time you join a match you gotta Alt-Tab before you can move your camera in game.
At first the game wouldn't even boot up so i set the boot options to PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% and enabled the legacy GPU support setting in the launcher settings. The game loaded but was lagging really hard.
I waited for a bit, then rebooted the game with LD_PRELOAD="" gamemoderun %command% (not sure if these boot options really did anything but still). The game booted up as expected and after a couple of minutes the lag spikes were completely gone.
After that, the lag spikes only returned whenever i encountered new (aka not yet loaded) maps in matchmaking. In which case the game would freeze every 2-3 seconds for about 30-40 seconds.
Once i have "loaded" every map in the matchmaking pool, the game ran smooth as butter.
Its been 2 days now and it still works perfectly fine.
Rem - you only need launch options so you get the first inital screen grab. After relaunch remove it.
use proton 7.06 and " PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% " for launch option

Extra steps: Disable Easy Anti-Cheat; Uncheck both "Disable Lutris Runtime" and "Prefer system libraries"

Couldn't get it to work
Launcher works fine, but game crashes almost instantly

use proton 7.06 and PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% for launch option
Huge visual glitches. Orange-yellow beams in the sky, explosions creating a low poly blow covering the whole screen and much more
No keyboard inputs were working. Mouse and controller worked fine though
Huge stutters every few seconds lasting for about a second. Launching the game has about a 50/50 chance of working
About half the time when trying to launch it crashed
As stated above
The game is totally unplayable. I would strongly reccomend against this

The Launcher and EAC load-bar work
[path to Crossout.exe] %command§
I tried both of the recent workarounds and neither does anything

echo "%command%" >/dev/null; '/games/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Proton - Experimental/proton' waitforexitandrun /games/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Crossout/launcher.exe -steam
There is a very short pause (few usec) every 2-8 seconds, with motion blur enabled, you might not even notice it. Does not really disturb gameplay.
Works fine for me, including game launcher, with experimental Proton with the launch options above, you will have to update the paths to your environment. You may use the line below in the launch options to get the default start command.
echo "%command%" > ~/Desktop/steamcmd.txt
The game starts also with Proton 8.0 and other versions, but login via Steam always failed when I tried.
The previous solution with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1
breaks textures and performance goes to 1 FPS.

Load and update the game using the Launcher. To Play the game add the full path to the crossout.exe before %command%
"Full Path to Crossout.exe" %command%
Crash after starting using Launcher.

Crashes right after clicking play
tried many versions that some ppl had luck with.

up to some point game worked fine, now it does not because of anticheat

Unable to pass login screen because of anticheat system
You cannot pass game login screen, whatever flags you pass to launcher, game will always popup a message saying that it can't start anticheat system, even with EAC runtime installed.

Doesn't launch
Game launcher doesn't open with which you install the actual game

I did install the game under proton 7 a while ago fine too

Games runs smooth (60+ fps) with minimal hickups. Random crashes (Menu / Battles), but playable..
sometimes mouse loose focus, alt + tab fix it.
Use Proton 7.0-6
Launch the first time with launch option: PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
On the first menu (memorize where the PLAY button is located, you will need this later xD)
Click on play button, launch the game, configure your video settings, make sure you can go on the test area. (The game have downloaded and loaded all it needs). Close the game.
Now launch the game without the launch option set on the second step.
A black screen will show (this is actually the first menu!)
Wait a little to the game to loads and the play button is ready (just some seconds) and click where the PLAY button was on the first launch (bottom right side). If it dosent launch, trying clicking some more. Easy anti-cheat screen will display and the game should launch.
The game is playable, runs smooth with a good FPS, and the multiplayer works well. The only downside is the crashes, which are completely random—sometimes occurring in the first battle and other times allowing you to play multiple battles. Good luck!

Install protontricks through flatpak and configure WineD3D backend to use the Vulkan renderer:
flatpak install --system com.github.Matoking.protontricks
flatpak run com.github.Matoking.protontricks 386180 renderer=vulkan
Due to using WineD3D with Vulkan renderer, the game should be run in Legacy GPU compatibility mode which results in low quality graphics but the overall experience is fine.
There is sometimes minimal stuttering during gameplay but nothing serious and completely playable.
The game runs smooth except for occasional stutter. Needs configuring launch options, protontricks and legacy graphics mode to make the game able to launch and run without major issues.
Does not run, not even Proton 7.0 helps

Game Launches, but will crash shortly after. Certain settings may make it last longer, but it will inevitably crash after a few minutes.
Unplayable.
After some amount of time after game started game crashes.

The game runs terribly irregardless of PC hardware.
The game crashes frequently.
The game is plagued by a number of graphical degradations and performance issues.

Cannot get the game to launch
Tried all the various suggestions of the other reports on this game but nothing worked. Simply does not open.
Tried setting WINE_DISABLE_VULKAN_OPWR=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES=vulkan-1=n,b PROTON_HEAP_DELAY_FREE=1 %command%
Tried reverting versions of proton, using the default proton, using proton-ge.
Tried setting the "legacy GPU" option in the launcher.

At the beginning of each game, the mouse won't start moving the crosshair until you Alt-Tab out and back into the game.
To get the game running after installing the launcher, go into the launcher's settings and enable 'Legacy GPU Support'.
GE-Proton-9-5 nor any of Steam's installed versions worked other than 7.0-6, so switch to that.

Big Pictire)

WINE_DISABLE_VULKAN_OPWR=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES=vulkan-1=n,b PROTON_HEAP_DELAY_FREE=1 %command%
It was possible to launch only VKD3D (DX12). I had to change json to launch it:
- Open Steam, make all necessary edits (launch options, Proton selection, etc)
- Go to the EAC folder (../steamapps/common/Crossout/EasyAntiCheat/Launcher)
- Start the game, wait for the launcher to finish all checks and the Play button will appear
- Delete Settings 64.json
- Copy Settings D3D 12.json and paste it into the same folder, but named Settings 64.json Press Play button in launcher
Do you want to start the game again? Repeat these steps again >_<
There is a way described here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1937#issuecomment-1766340094 It didn't work for me, after following the instructions, the launcher turns into a pumpkin. Checks files, tries to download something, but there is nothing.
sometimes there were jerks, I think, due to the fact that shader compilation was taking place.

Frequent random crashes. In most cases I can't even play a full match.
Crashes far too often. Couldn't find a combination of commands and Proton version to fix this.

%command% WINE_DISABLE_VULKAN_OPWR=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES=vulkan-1=n,b PROTON_HEAP_DELAY_FREE=1

Doesn't work. Gets stuck on the opening screen, but doesn't let me into even the main menu.
Couple of large frame time spikes during the first couple of matches, after that flawless performance

Game crashes no matter in game mode or desktop mode. You are lucky if you can play 2 games back to back.
If you are wanting to play this on the deck, you'll want to boot into windows.

to switch the game you need to switch 2 times through alt-tab
at the first start, serious friezes may appear, but then they disappear, I can assume that this is due to pre-compilation or data caching
played 4 pvp + 3 pve + 1 pvp + 1 pve + 1 pvp, total game time is about 1 hour, the game worked perfectly

Crossout does not run under Linux (without tinkering).
I know the game from Windows. The same updater window starts up and downloads updates in the beginning. Another error pop-up comes up mentioning that something went wrong and I could send a error report (but as I saw the updater window working normal in the background, I skipped this). The updater went through until I could press "play". After that it started loading as expected (black screen and the circle-shadow thing appears), but after a while my system just made a reboot...

%command% WINE_DISABLE_VULKAN_OPWR=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES=vulkan-1=n,b PROTON_HEAP_DELAY_FREE=1
Alt-tab to fix mouse
2 consecutive microfreezes stable every start, random crashes
microfreezes, random crashes
It was possible to play stably without crashes in the following way: Launch the proton experimental, play, wait for the crash and change to proton 7.0-6, launch, play without crashes as much as you like. This sequence is needed every new session of the game
