Single-player ran at a locked 60fps at max settings, but any time a player connected to begin multiplayer, the framerate would drop to a locked 30fps or dip lower. It would also introduce other issues like audio bugs, inconsistent framepacing, and random slowdowns.
This was solved by temporarily (or permanetly) using: sudo sysctl kernel.split_lock_mitigate=0
As of right now, this seems to only affect newer Intel CPU's. However, I'm no expert so take that with a grain of salt. If that fix doesn't work for you, perhaps trying to follow this might help: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/8751#issuecomment-2945876353
Please make sure to see my notes if you have an Intel processor and you're experiencing that multiplayer bug. I hope it helps, but if not, please refer to Valve's github page on the matter

Steam randomly starts shutting down or asks to install drivers when booting with Overlay on.

Enjoyment is frankly a coin-toss, I can easily see a lot of folks dropping this because of the performance issues.
During a match, I will have 2 or 3 instances where I suspect the game really struggles loading an area, because everything starts happening on slow motion for roughly 5-15 seconds, it appears the rest of the game logic also slows down so I don't usually get hit by enemies, but it's incredibly infurating.
This issue also happens consistently on some select few cases where enemies spawn a bunch of particles, like the revenant boss when they are charging up.
After closing the game and waiting a few seconds a black screen will reappear, hang around for a few seconds and then properly close.
From the 260 hours, roughly 80% of them where doing multiplayer with randoms, but I also did a healthy amount of singleplayer & some passworded games with friends.

Framerate can sometimes drop severely in the title screen menu (not in game) for significant periods of time
Framerate drops in the title screen menu (not in game) can cause the game to issue a low framerate warning, barring you from online play until the game is completely restarted, despite actual performance in the game being stable
Works pretty well! Due to the performance issues in the title screen menu (not in game) combined with the low framerate warning that bars you from online play, I recommend spending as little time as possible in the title screen menu. Loading into the game before that performance issue occurs will allow you to play online, since actual performance in game is stable. I also recommend setting all settings to low and lowering your resolution in order to maintain a 30 fps limit. The game runs uncapped by default, and the Steam Deck's built in framerate limiter induces input delay which is unwelcome for this sort of game, so I recommend using the launch parameter I listed to cap the game to 30 fps. The game may still occasionally drop below 30, but not super often with a low enough resolution, and the drops are so momentary that they are better described as stutters

Gamemode command necessary for acceptable performance / Nvidia open drivers cause game to fail to launch game
Have to set to Fullscreen, not borderless fullscreen. Borderless fullscreen experienced worse performance
Use gamemoded -r
before launch to prevent severe stuttering and keep it running in a terminal.
Please note, I did not experience significantly better performance until I added my linux account to the gamemode group using sudo usermod -aG gamemode [USERNAME HERE]
When using Nvidia open 570/575 drivers, the game was unable to launch. Reverting to 550 drivers fixed the issue. Seemed to be crashing post-EAC (white screen of death as I have seen it called online)
The issues I describe above appear to be related strictly to Intel CPUs and may be related to split lock mitigation in the Linux Kernel

Massive performance drop in multiplayer
After extensive testing, I've found the cause of multiplayer framedrops. It's caused by split lock mitigate that got added into linux kernel since 5.19. This causes severe regressions in some games that use split lock functionality. Nightreign seems to be one of them, especially when you switch to multiplayer. To fix multiplayer performance, you need to disable split lock mitigate in linux kernel by adding
kernel.split_lock_mitigate=0 to /etc/sysctl.d/99-splitlock.conf
You can also do this temporarily by: sudo sysctl kernel.split_lock_mitigate=0 This will however not persist after boot hence the first method is a permanent solution. This mitigation doesn't affect security whatsoever and was placed by the kernel devs as to discourage bad coding practices but clearly it just causes so many issues for people and most don't know about this issue.

Had to remove "gamemoderun" from launch options, otherwise I got a white screen and the game would crash. After that it works pretty much out of the box.

At least once per play session the game would freeze for 3-5 seconds during expedition, but then goes back to normal.
Runs as well as on windows out of the box, the freeze mentioned above did not ruin the game for me.

Works great on high-max graphics settings
PS5 controller trackpad was activating mouse left click on default steaminput settings.
Slight fps drops after loading screens.
Works close or better than running on windows natively

Game is more stable on Linux than Windows. Some things that just drop framerates randomly in Windows don't cause a drop under Linux.

env GAMEMODERUNEXEC="env DRI_PRIME=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1" gamemoderun %command%
At some point, FromSoftware made an update to this game that completely broke Adaptive Sync with DXVK, and I needed to use KWin Rules to force it off just to play the game for an evening.
I've since found out that enabling dxvk-async mostly solves this problem, and when the screen does flicker it's rare, brief, and usually not noticeable. However if you don't have the GPU that can output consistently to your monitor's refresh rate, playing this game without VRR is an absolute nightmare.
Use dxvk-async, it's part of the launch options in this report.
Disabling Steam Input means no controller. So, wine-wayland (and thus HDR, more on that later) is off the table. You could try to map your controller to keyboard inputs, but then you lose the precision of the joysticks. This isn't flash Isaac.
When I first installed this game a few weeks ago, it was completely unplayable and wasn't able to get remotely any sort of performance past 20 FPS on the lowest graphics settings. That has since disappeared after tinkering with launch options, but those launch options are no longer used so I don't know what the cause actually was. Try applying some of the other ProtonDB reports' launch options until something sticks, then check if removing it reverts the performance fix.
On occasion, this game will freeze for a brief moment and then quickly fast-forward through all the frames you would have lost. I am led to believe this happens on Windows as well, but haven't tested it there.
Due to the requirement on Steam Input, HDR does not work with this game. I've tried to use DXVK_HDR, but the result is having completely washed out colors. wine-wayland works (PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1, PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1), but only if you use GE-Proton and only play on keyboard.
There is no reason for any game to have a forced requirement on Steam Input when XInput has been the standard for decades and has worked fine with SDL.
If you make this game your bitch, it will work fine. Sorry if you have HDR. Getting this game to function the way I wanted was 3 hours that I'm never getting back. This game is lots of fun, but damnit FromSoftware, please fix your games for once.

When "volumetric quality" is set to anything other than max, fog rendered over everything is frequent
When chaning to a different app for 10-15 the game would be disconnected from the game servers and send me to the main menu for "frame rate" issues
Slight rendering and window issues, otherwise amazing experience

Almost unplayable since you need to be in a match for 40-60 minutes, would generally crash at least once, sometimes twice in a match.
Would crash sometimes, mostly after PC had been on for awhile either playing or standby.
It ran perfectly for a few matches after restart but would have consistent issues any time I played for awhile or swapped games to play this. (Other games do not have the same issue for me)

Worse performance than Elden Ring, especially when a lot of things are happening at once. Final bosses run at a significantly higher fps than rest of the game.

Game would run outrageously
OOTB the game would run insanely bad, around 30fps to 20 in multiplayer, consistent freezes and stutter. I've tried the many given "fixes" with intel_pstate=disable
, disabling e-cores, cpupower
, none of that work.
Tho, it fixed by running first:
sudo usermod -aG gamemode $(whoami)
then before running the game, opening a terminal:
gamemoded -r
Now it runs smoothly except random stutters but I think it's the game's fault. It runs better here than on Windows.

It works great out of the box! I'm on CachyOS and I use the steam default compatibility settings. So far so good.
There's a major slowdown at least once per gaming session. It lasts for about 5 seconds and then i'm clear for as long as I don't quit and open the game again.
no issues at all

Game servers will occasionally kick you off- can reconnect
Game servers are the issue, runs perfectly otherwise. Playing with a PS5 controller - You attack when pressing down on the touchpad and gliding across it will move your camera-> to avoid this, press down on the edge of the touchpad to open the map without attacking, useful for when on the move.

Could probably be fixed by forcing the sampling rate in pipewire as stated by other users. But its so infrequent I didn't bother to do so.
For some reason it would not use my controller with Proton9 so I switched. Probably a quirk with my system specifically. GE installed from flatpak (where I got steam also) works perfectly.

On windows I was getting occasional 1-15 second game freezes, thankfully it seems like bosses would stop attacking when this happened. but playing the game on bazzite with proton experimental is a much more stable experience.
I had a crash on the default proton version, what was worse was it would not let me rejoin the game until I rebooted into windows, make sure you use Experimental.

WOTB overall, the game can still handle high graphic but will eat a significant amount of battery power
switch to medium graphic, motion blur off
some distortions at the main menu
touch screen will make the camera angle spin vigorously
The game works fine without any tinkering but it may eat performance as well as battery.

I basically applied Spartan195's guide from the Elden Ring ProtonDB page, since it's the same engine and their configurations ran amazing on my Steam Deck. All credit to them. This'll give you rock solid 30 fps. I played a whole run (and won!) using these settings with no problems whatsoever. I'll just copy and paste their settings here:
Graphic settings:

- Autodetect settings: On
- Raytracing: Off
- Texture Quality: High
- Antialiasing: High
- SSAO (User preference): Off
- DOF: Off

- Shadow: Medium
- Lighting: Medium
- Effects: Low
- Volumetric: Low
- Reflection: Low
- Water Surface: Low

When ping rate is high with other players, or the game is doing some enviorment generation, there is signicant stuttering for a few seconds and then catches up. Happens more often in multiplayer, sometimes in solo. I play next to a windows user often with matchings specs & parts ---when this happens in runs--- their game doesn't stutter but players and enemies will teleport.

On rare occasions the camera would glitch when starting the game and I was unable to control it. I had to restart my computer, has not happened since I changed to CachyOS kernel.

Runs well out of the box
Every so often the game FPS would drop massively for a few seconds before recovering. If you are in a boss fight it could end your run there. This hapened about once every run (+-40 minutes)
I've marked the FPS drop as a significant performance issue because it could very well end your run, even though it's not that frequent. Besides that the game runs pretty well without any tinkering
