Occasional crashes on Ragnarok due to out of video memory...video memory never exceeds 10GB and I have 12GB
After the ASA 5.5 update, I could not run under any proton version, until I deleted the game's compatadata to refresh it.

Runs as well as it does on Windows, some stability issues but was able to work around them

Game occasionally froze when switching to the Dino Tracking tab in inventory. Found out this only happened when I had the game on same workspace overlapping Steam, if I moved it to another workspace this did not occur.

gamemoderun %command%
Game occasionally freezes and task must be killed. When this happens I usually loose about a minute of progress or so but nothing substantial. In around 8 hours of playtime this happened 3 times.

Fixed this by installing gamescope on Zorin OS 17.3 when I was using that, because I couldn't connect to any server. Now uusing CachyOS and
Sky wasn't rendering properly.
Make sure that you have all gaming related techs installed before running the game. It makes life alot easier. I'm fairly new to linux so it took me a while to figure this out.

Game runs fine. On my GPU I can set everything to max and get 60fps at native 1440p (no frame gen or DLSS)

The game looks nice; some new mechanics, like dinos, have an age cycle and can tame baby dinos if you kill their parents.

I would have to restart the game when changing graphic settings or textures wouldn't fully reload.
While in-game, menus (i.e., the pause menu or the inventory menu) would get around 30-45 FPS. The game runs at 55-75 FPS on High with Frame Generation on, FSR set to quality, and 30-45 FPS on Epic. Without Frame Generation, I got 20-30 FPS on High, and I did not test Epic without Frame Generation.
While unlocking new engrams, the game crashed and lost some progress.
New mechanics, better graphics with some proformace issues. My opion on the game is nutral. Honestly I may refund the game though. As the game is now I would still recommend Evolved since its a little less buggy, I think the devs should spend more time getting the game out of pre-release instead of DLCs. There is no native support for a dedicated linux server.

Working before 5.5 with proton 9.0-4, can't start with any version of proton after
gamemoderun %command%
I got decent frames before 5.5 with 9.0-4. It was playable. Now I can't run it with any Proton I've tried, including suggested recent versions of GE-Proton. My servers (9 in my cluster now) are running great...client not so much. Steam shows it's running, but no game window appears.

Destructable trees and rocks do not disappear after harvesting
The recent update to the Unreal Engine 5.5 has really stablized the game. Before I was getting about 5fps on High settings, now I hover around 30fps. A lot of the graphical anomalies with floating rocks have went away but am having issues with destructable items in the world.

Game worked up until a recent update
Not really sure what happened by after updating my system last week the game will crash at the title screen. Different versions of Proton seem entirely inconsequential.
Before this update it was 312 hours of smooth sailing by ARK standards.

Crashes back to desktop
On starting up this game. I could get to the main menu and click single player or join game, but when logging in to the game world it crashes back to the desktop. Never used to do this. Tried different proton versions and also proton GE only to get same results.

Quick install of GE-Proton9-25 and a simple command line and this thing works great - tested on both my PCs (both running PopOS/AMD cards)
-high -maxMem=24576 -malloc=system -force-feature-level-11-0 -cpuCount=10 -exThreads=16 -force-d3d11-no-singlethreaded +fps_max 0 -high -nojoy -dxlevel 95 -forcenovsync +exec autoexec
Didn't run smoothly without the modifications.

The UI is borrowed from the UE4 version of this game, therefore it is inadequate for small screens; The Steam Deck's especially.
Occasionally, keybinds would unbind themself when you relaunch the game.
It shocked me how well the game ran without any tinkering, though this game does guzzle your battery like it doesn't exist.

Commands for potato graphics
Joining a server or playing with mods
The game runs okay out of the box on low settings even on Aberration ~25fps. With potato commands it runs pretty well around 45 fps. The only problem is you cannot play anything online. No joining servers or even joining friends the deck will die and you have to force shutdown. Same if you play with mods. Overall it's not enjoyable for me cause I like playing with mods but this could get fixed eventually.

No different than how it is on windows, if they CAN enjoy it on windows they would enjoy it on Linux.
Textures didn't look like they fully loaded, possible issues with streaming.
Runs like dogshit, feels like the original Ark when i played it on a gtx 960, only that THIS WAS A RTX 3090.
Its Ark, nothing more needs to be said.

HDR Not Detected, Requires Gamescope for HDR support.
When using HDR through gamescope with Frame Gen enabled there is major flickering of landscape/scenery.

A game window appears for half a second and disappears, which closes the game.
Game didn't start

The game was working fine 4 months ago, see my previous report. However, now when I try to make a new Singleplayer game, it always crashes as soon as you try to enter a world. I've tried it 6 times overall in countless variations, and it always ended with a hard crash. DON'T BUY IF YOU WANT TO PLAY THIS ON THE DECK

If you really don't want to run Windows, then this is playable but stuttering occurs when moving fast, so consider using slower tames..
FSR3 Frame Interpolation enabled in Engine.ini https://pastebin.com/uNQPQu6q
20-30 FPS less than native on Windows 11 Pro, hard stuttering when moving fast

In order to enjoy playing ASA, I recommend following *CTRL ALT REBOOT* guide *Linux Tech Tips EP#27: Installing Nukems FSR3 Frame Gen Mod*.

Well, ASA is quite buggy by itself, so hard to tell if any bug is proton related or not.

game is working perfectly after installing battleye and some other program on startup
i was surprised how well the game works in 2k but that is how my amd card is good for

7FPS while the horizon was in view - If looking directly at the ground I get 75FPS (Vsync)
Game is just completely unplayable in it's current state with Proton. Not suggested as a purchase as of 14 June, 2024. I requested refund and can not update this post - apologies.
Even worse than the first Ark: Survival Evolved launch - In My Opinion.

The game is playable and it even ran smother on Linux than on windows, the issue is there is a lot of flickering
There a lot of shadow flickering, I am guessing it has to do with global ilumination.
So I dont know if there is a way to fix the flickering ..maybe a GE Proton version. but if there is a way to fix it ..it would run solid . FYI This issue only happens when you are inside of buildings.

I've played the game since it released, put hundreds of hours into it and have never had any issues specific to Linux.
I played on a private, self hosted server without battle eye, I have not tested the anticheat at all as I see no point in using one on a private server.

as usual, customized the controls. back grip buttons for enabling potato mode, hotbar on right trackpad, customized dpad
in multiplayer i had several occurences of the game just freezing
character creator crashes the game. just quickly press next to get through it
Oh boy, i would never have thought this would run as well as it does.
performance optimization: set everything, i repeat, EVERYTHING to the lowest possible setting. add some console commands to the back grips for even more fps. templates for this can be found on community layouts.
Overall, it runs at between 30 and 40 fps with these modifications. Not bad.
multiplayer: i was able to log into a player-hosted server (albeit without battleye), entering the password was the most tedious part of this, as the password is invisible and you cannot see if you typed in the right thing with the touchpad.
singleplayer: runs fine without significant issues

Attempting to customize your character locks/crashs the game. Just quickly push create to get into the game.

Works perfectly fine, multiplayer and singleplayer has no issues and ran how it did with Windows.
DLSS RTX options aren't available.
Had problems when launching with Proton Experimental (VRAM exhaustion on 8GB NVIDIA card), but works great with GE.

The game works well on the SteamDeck, it fells like it runs around 30–40 FPS and doesn't feel too bad to play. I would use r.volumetriccloud 0 in the console for better FPS. If you experience some issues with launching the game (like it crashes when you make a world), just verify the game! I would recommend!

Runs better than native, using GE-Proton8-25 Framerate, stability and smoothness is better than on Windows 10 using the same hardware.
