The game runs vert well under Linux using proton as well as the native build on a variety of hardware.
Here's a little run-down on my main system (the specs that should be listed near my profiles)
Had no issues running the native port on my main system!.
However trying it on a Ryzen 5500U + Vega 7 had an insanely long stutters (2-3 seconds) on the native port but ran great with Proton, so if you run into any issues try proton! It may be down to me tinkering with some settings on the proton build.
Steam Deck:
I own one, about to test it!
Multiplayer worked was able to play with a windows friend!
-high -maxMem=95536 -malloc=system -force-feature-level-11-0 -cpuCount=10 -exThreads=16 -force-d3d11-no-singlethreaded +fps_max 0 -high -nojoy -dxlevel 95 -forcenovsync +exec autoexec
The game works well on the SteamDeck, it fells like it runs around 30–40 FPS and doesn't feel too bad to play. I would use r.volumetriccloud 0 in the console for better FPS. If you experience some issues with launching the game (like it crashes when you make a world), just verify the game! I would recommend!
The games runs well under Linux, no problems at all!
My Main System (it should be listed on the side, however I do use Fedora 39 now)
Ran great, no issues besides being a massive 300gb+ game!
My Laptop
Ryzen 5500U
Vega 7, 16GB
Ran decent for such hardware, a playable late 20s to 30s-40s fps!
Steam Deck:
Works okay, just you may need to verify files if you run into issues like me!
It's a MMO, so yeah you would hope it would work well and it dd.
The game worked very well, however if for some strange reason if you want to run this game under DirectX9 it will crash when in game. This crash for GE does not accuer when using 7.0.2 (Steam Offical). Note the laucnher does have a little missing text but works 100% well please note its not fun installing the game since the launcher even on windows does have stability issues.
The game runs well on a variety of hardware, great and fun game would recommand!
(Native Port)
My Main System (The side should have it with my profile)
Run no issues, ran great (using controllers was stupid, but it's not any Linux issues and is a game issue)!
My Laptop
Ryzen 5500u + Vega 7
Since I have to use Xrandr since MATE has issues on my display (way way way too small) it's a weird resulation which has massive overscan issues. You must first set it to normal xrandr --output eDP --primary --mode 1920x1080 --scale 1x1 disable full-screen (even if I use my xrandr res it still has bad overscan) and it runs well! Normal laptops and hell if you have a 720p or 1080p laptop or a normal res you'd be fine.
Steam Deck:
Runs great no issues at all!
This game is very fun and runs better than on Windows. This game is 100% playable on linux
It worked fine
It worked fine

I would say if your fine with EAC off servers the games 100% enjoyable. However be aware only a few servers will work but other tham that .
PROTON_EAC_RUNTIME=$HOME/.local/share/lutris/runtime/eac_runtime/ %command%
If you used the deafult settings (Normal Fullscreen) when you would clickon on something outside of your screen rust would freeze when you tried going back to it. I fixed it by changing it to borderless fullscreen. (MATE, Fedora 37)
Sadly with the studios malice towards Linux they haven't enabled EAC. I highly doubt they ever will (20:80). Thankfuly rust.deadlock.com is a great eac off (uses custom anti cheat) and any other EAC disbaled server will work. It is also said that some server browser servers will work. (Remeber you can only find EAC Off servers in steam's cleint server browser not in game)
This works fine, except for a very minor slowdown on cut screens only.
