Remade version of the game instantly crashed on i3wm
Changed proton version
Works ootb.

the same as the classic version of DooM (1993) - no problems, just works
Everyone knows that you can always fire up one the many source ports and play the game outside of steam using the .WADs from this game, and there are many very good (linux native) source ports out there, no matter if you want to stay original or a more modern experience with higher quality graphics and mouse look and stuff like this. I for myself am a big fan of Nugget Doom, because you still play the games the way they were designed in the 90s (control- / gameplay-wise) but have a lot of small nice features added.
Yet, when it comes to this official version on Steam, using the Unity-Engine as a wrapper around the classic game, I have to say: it's not half bad. If you don't want to do anything manually and just play the classic DooM-Games, just use the Steam-version. You'll enjoy it!

I always use Proton Experimental, didn't even try the standard version.

Use a source port for the best experience. The Unity ports of both games are perfectly fine, but there's no reason not to use a source port if you want better modding support (GZDOOM) or a vanilla expierence (Chocolate DOOM) for example.

Works OOTB
Lowest mouse sensitivity way too high
MS-DOS version also works too, but the resolution is a nightmare

Flawless experience without any Proton tweaks.
Lags but only on DOS versions.
The Bethesda version works perfectly (I increased mouse senstivity but that's it) but some lag issues with the DOS version.
Works perfectly

Runs with no tinkering as if it's native
I was also able to install and enable mods with no issues. I didn't tested multiplayer since I just play single player.
Works out of the box.
The (Original) versions that run on DOSBOX seem to have stuttering and freezing issues. Not the fault of proton.
Otherwise, version that runs on proton work perfectly.
flawless
Remastered version ran perfectly from begin to end. DOS version launches without problem, but I didn’t play more than a few minutes.
Works flawless
Was able to play the remastered and the DOS versions without problems.
A handful of slowdown hiccups, maybe a little overheating before fan kicked in? Otherwise stable 60fps.
Battery was ~5 hours from full with no changes. Strangely I did not get any of the starting splash screens until finishing the game (previously I just got the "TV test screen" until the Doom 2 title ).
Game opens on black screen, after pressing Enter the game goes to main menu and then works normally. Can't login to Bethesda.net. Also, game crashes on exit.
Works (almost) perfectly OOTB.
Only the Bethesda version of the game runs, the DOS versions freeze after a couple of seconds of gameplay and I had to stop them through Steam to close them.
Use luxtorpeda for gzdoom and doomrunner. Mod time.
Repeated inputs when using classic controls
All the power can be cranked down to save battery life. Draws less than 1W this way. 150FPS with Vsync off in game.
TDP 3 and GPU 200
Both DOS and remastered versions worked perfectly.
Doom II for the early 2000s, whats not to like. runs great!
Its doom. It works.
Had to switch to proton experimental to get the game to start. But then it works very well with no issues or tinkering needed.

Flawless
Working flawlessly, as it should.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
add PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to launch option and the game run smooth
runs fine like ultimate doom
the only problem i experienced was the same thing that happened in ultimate doom. the game crashed in the first maps, 2 crashes in doom II and 1 crash in ultimate doom. but overall the performance is good and crashes never happened again.

Tried with many versions of Proton, none working for DOS or Unity Version
Set up old PC for my son. Can't get games to start. Unity version will pop up a crash reporting window. Used to work fine with both manajaro and pop os. Have tried both of those as well, and will not work on any of my PCs or distros. Have tried Proton Experimental, 6.3-8, 5.13-6, 4.2-9, 3.7-8, 5.9-GE-5-ST, and 7.1-GE-2.
Have started Steam from terminal and don't seen any issues pop up there, just the game's directory then nothing

Newest version of proton borks game
The game used to be perfect. Now it just shows color bars whenever I open it and I can't do anything about it. Same thing with The Ultimate Doom
It's Doom II a classic. The official Bethesda source port is ok for someone who just wants to pick up the game and play.
Success
It runs just as good as on Windows 10.
Black screen or crash with Unity version. Use GZDoom or another software to play.
Unity remake crashes on startup, DOSBox version works but won't detect controllers.
The game works as long as you force Proton Experimental in the game compatibility options. The default one just gives a black screen for me.

6.14-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Unity version doesn't show the intros. You need the mf-install or Proton-GE
You can run with native engine and with mods using Luxtorpeda and selecting Gzdoom in startup. You can run too the vanilla Dos version with Chocolate Doom or with Boxtron + dosbox staging, this is optional.
Game sometimes crashes on start, always crashes when exiting the game. But if the game loads, it works just fine.
Cloud saves don't work. Local saves work just fine.
The port works great, however the DOS version doesn't start at all. It starts for a moment, but then crashes.
I encountered a crash at one point ~3 seconds after loading a save state.
After completing Map 6 (I think it is), there's some story dialogue. If you don't skip it and then try to continue, it will either take a long time to begin the next stage or not respond at all. The quick way of getting around this is to skip it ASAP.
Black screens on gamestart can be passed by pressing Enter several times, but it seems that other functionality functioning normally.
- After latest Bethesda patches game launches with black screen. It seems that proton can't play bethesda intro movies. I can skip these black-screens (with failed introes) by pressing Enter several times but it's kinda annoying.
- I can't normally process "exit game": after click "Exit", game just hanging and only "kill process" helps.
