Switch to Experimental
Performance is much better if you force experimental.
Works out of the box.

Enabled "Use Steam Runtime" from the settings.

Game runs pretty good. Maintain stable performance with no degradation.
good proton compatibility, it just like playing natively on windows PC

Runs perfectly out of the box as if it were native.

Runs perfectly out of the box. Like native.

Works great right out of the box

Works perfectly out of the box.
Was able to beat one level.
works out of the box with no tickering

I'll be honest, I thought this game was native to Linux until I checked ProtonDB. Also this tinker step of switching to experimental is not really a tinker step because I installed Proton Experimental as a default, I don't use any other versions.

Game audio was silent until I forced Proton Experimental
Other than the audio, everything else works perfectly and my save data from Windows loaded properly.

Almost worked OOTB: Proton seems to be required to have sound. Works without issues otherwise.
No audio unless using Proton (Experimental)

Cantt use steam input nor integrated controller support

Runs Natively
I typically use gamemoderun
even though I didn't indicate that so this would not be flagged as tinkering. The reason is that gamemode prevents PC from going to sleep and monitors turning themselves off and I leave the game running to farm money sometimes.
Audio did not work without Proton despite the game appearing with "Show only games that run on Linux" selected, but with Proton the audio is perfectly fine.

gamemoderun %command%

Unmarked native build
It has a native build where the executable is inexplicably named VampireSurvivors.exe, I checked by starting it from a terminal emulator

No game audio
Totally borked. No audio outpit. At all.
Game honestly runs perfectly fine, but no audio at all. Tried forcing all audio through one device, didn't work. Other games work fine. Think it's an issue with this game specifically. Otherwise flawless experience.
