Same old problem with video (codecs?) as of last game patch (2.41) and latest content update.
%command% -dx12
Hard to tune down graphics to the point that one can get consistent enough 60 FPS, this is a requirement for multiplayer.
Constant 60 FPS is rather a requirement due to rollback. Of course you can play locally offline at 30 FPS, if that is comfortable, but the online software will give you serious problems.
It's important to clarify that "not being able to watch videos" means that the game (story mode) freezes, does not respond to input (other than alt-tab), and you have to force-stop it from Steam, so it really is unplayable. You can test whether videos work on gallery mode, and avoid a game crash that way.
Both on Steam Deck and desktop, still I am unable to watch videos unless forcing DX12, none of the Proton versions seem to help.

Rodou 100% sem nenhuma configuração, só usar o proton padrão da steam
Hopefully the cross-play patch fixes matchmaking issues
there are still problems with matchmaking on PC, not related to linux

Games run pretty well using Proton 7.0-6
ray-tracing is not working at the moment (the game hangs), but it's not enabled by default. To give it a go you need to change the Launch Options to: RADV_PERFTEST=rt VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr %command% -dx12

SInce my last review, the game and its Proton support have gotten to a point I don't experience any issues.
SNK's rollback needs some work but its still good nonetheless

No major bugs encountered so far.
Capped at 60FPS, but it maintains stable 60 FPS with all settings maxed through the whole thing.
Requires proton-ge-custom for story mode, otherwise some movies don't play.
25 games, not a single crash so far.
Alt-tabbing works. Team pass I works out of the box, all characters playable. Note: I have not needed the VC++ redist patch.
Unreal engine game, works like most other fighters. But performance on battery is slightly better than other fighters. I can adjust game settings so that I can set my laptop to ~40W max. power and this way get >2h battery life while maintaining 60 FPS. I cannot do that with e.g. Guilty Gear Strive, nor most modern games.
Newest Proton 7.04 fixes the online connectivity issue. Was able to play several ranked matches without disconnects.
Runs like a charm

great fighting game for linux
when playing story mode sometimes after a match is done you get a blackscreen and audio can still be heard but nothing can be done other than restarting the game
online is broken for windows as well but local works great
get an arcade stick to play it
For those who enjoy offline playing this is great. For online, best wait until devs fix it
Intros/Cinamatics not worked until I use "Proton-GE". Online is broken
Few seconds after starting a match, an error message is displayed. Game returns to menu
Very good performance on Linux. When online play is fixed/stable, it will be really great
Perfect with Proton 7.0-3 flatpak build.
The menus, for me at least, have been busted since launch. They randomly bring the frame rate to a crawl and are a killer on my GPU. Patches have made this issue less frequent, but it's still there. I'm confident the issue is with the game itself as matches themselves run fine.
As others have said Matchmaking is pretty much broken. It has been for me personally long before the Rugal update. Pretty much a killer for a fighting game. The PC port of XV in general is an absolute mess, and most of the issues should have been fixed long before the game launched. That's what a beta test is for, SNK.
An update to my original review. While the game itself is excellent, all the bugs and silly glitches have really ruined the experience.

Online's broken since Rugal update. Matchmaking is also broken in every platform / console
-dx11
Installed ucrtbase.dll following Overlords's advice
The game disconnects at any random point since Rugal update
SNK should focus on fixing this issues, as they are a big deal breaker for the game. Shame, as the game is really good. Just another solid KOF game held down by it's subpar PC port.
Since patch 1.20 multiplayer is completely broken
Need to use xbox-drv to have Linux recognize my hitbox due to bugged Brook Zero-Pi PCB firmware. This is a general issue, as the kernel is unable to properly poll the device.
Stuttering and frame pacing issues
When playing multiplayer matches the game will consistently throw an error and boot you back to the main menu after a couple of minutes.
I haven't been able to finish a single match with any of the people I've played since the aforementioned patch. I was hoping this issue would be remedied by now, but alas, no dice. I can't in good faith recommend this game in its current state, and I think a Gold rating is far too high for a primarily PvP-oriented game in which the multiplayer component is basically non-functional.

This game works really offline well for the most part. Played story mode, arcade mode and trials and had no issues.
Downloaded ucrtbase.dll and added it to the KOFXV/binaries directory
The game was crashing in multiplayer
In order to play this game online you will need to get the ucrtbase.dll. Instructions:
wget "https://download.microsoft.com/download/9/3/F/93FCF1E7-E6A4-478B-96E7-D4B285925B00/vc_redist.x64.exe" cabextract vc_redist.x64.exe cabextract a10 cp ucrtbase.dll [SteamLibrary]/steamapps/common/THE KING OF FIGHTERS XV/KOFXV/Binaries/Win64/
After patch 1.20, the game started having problems in online matches. always showing "An error has occurred" error. failed the proton 7 and the experimental.
After patch 1.20, the game started having problems in online matches. Showing "An error has occurred" error. I tested the proton 7 and the experimental.
After latest patch game is not playable online. Other than that offline mods work perfectly.
tried both -dx12 and -dx11
After recent update 1.20 (Rugal) the game is not really playable for me online as it's constantly showing me erros "An error has occured" and throwing me in to the main menu. I tried both -dx11 as well as -dx12 and on both settings it was unplayable. The errors happened randomly while playing. I was using latest version of ProtonGE, Proton Experimental as well as older versions of Proton. It would happend regardless of my tries and the worst part is there is no logs to help you troubleshoot the root of the error.
As I said before, after recent update 1.20 game is unplayable for me online. The error only appears online at random moments, sometimes even on the first round. It throws you back to the main menu while the partner you played with stays in the same lobby. I turned off my VPN and tried other internet connection including my phone network. Still same error. I tried different game setting, other Proton client (GE, experimental and latest stable version) and forcing DX11 and 12. Still the same outcome. It was working perfect on previous update.
I think something from the game is interacting wrong with Proton after last update. I'm honestly suprised that the game works so good on Linux as on Windows (at least for me) it constantly drops FPS and crashes while performic basic tasks. Now just to fix online play as Rugal update messed something up and it will perfect experience once again.
Ran as expected. Needed to disable shadows on BOTH windows and Ubuntu so not a proton issue.
-dx11
After patch 1.20, the game started showing error screens during online matches. "An error has occurred"

On windows, I was able to get constant 60fps but on Linux, I am only able to get about 20fps
Game is perfectly enjoyable. I encountered only 2 small issues, both doesn't impact game play in big way.
When I run game for the first time, I experienced some slowdowns, but all went away after around hour or 2 of playing. I suspect game was loading assets, because slowdowns were present when I played against new character, and that character performed some special moves for the 1st time. But this shouldn't be any issue, since now game runs smoothly.
After 29 hours played, game crashed 2 times. Both times after ranked online match, I suspected my opponent disconnected, but I'm not sure.
As I mentioned earlier, I had 2 crashes both after ranked match (so when the fight was over and game should load victory screen).
Fedora Linux has native firewall and matchmaking needs ports open. The game needs a docs for troubleshooting.
I have problems when I use Enter key. It seem the Alt key is locket. Soon, I press Alt+Enter, the Enter key is functional.
Video playback is not good. With 7.1-GE-2, I could play videos, but there is a lot of videos to play, and, after 1st video it seems the second video is playing in background while you are selecting the chars.
Direct from Steam, I had problems. 50 fps locked.

Unless you are using a Hitbox controller and a charge character
Using Hitbox controller with SOCD cleaner. Selected Leona. Perform Moon Slasher by holding down, hitting up+punch, release up+punch, all the while holding down. In this case the character should return to the crouching state immediately (as the input should now register as down). No down input is registered in the training mode input display and the character does not crouch as is the correct behaviour (works this way on Windows and in other fighting games). Seems to be related to this issue

2560x1440 resolution isn't available in game, I don't know if that's a platform or game specific problem.
Sometimes my arcade stick (Hitbox Crossup) would stop being recognized for 5-10 seconds and then work again.
Game works like a charm now and suffers no noticeable issues.
Before manually specifying Proton 7, game would have extremely bad framerate.
After switching to Proton 7.0-1 everything worked great (including online multiplayer, though I tried only 2 matches).
There was some microstutter when effects were showed for the first time (probably shader compilation). I have read that the same happens on Windows machines so this doesn't seem to be Linux specific.
The store page made it seem like the game would be on D3D11. While you can force the game into D3D11 with a command line switch, it actually defaults to D3D12 and still ran flawlessly.
It works like a charm
Runs out of the box, practically native
Proton 7 was used

Loaded into training mode and online ranked without any major issues
Game was stuck at 15FPS with Proton 6.3, but switching to 7.0 fixed that. Matchmaking seemed like it was working and I was able to find an opponent and play them for two games before quitting.
There was occasional microstutters; I don't know if that had to do with online or proton.
the performance of the game is not up to minimum requirements, you really need fighting games to be solid 60 at minimum.
couldnt map my 360 fightstick, ps3 or generic pads/sticks
game does not reach stable 60, game logic is tied to 60 so far from playable.
the game boots at sub 20 fps but everything seems to work except pad recognition
Ran perfectly out of the box using Proton 7.0.
The menus randomly slow to a crawl, though the frame rate is fixed when you enter a match. I'm not sure if this is a bug specific to Proton or the game in general considering it's new. I've also had a single freeze while going back to character select.
Online works just fine. Played a couple of matches against randos with no issue. Netcode is buttery smooth.
