None of the window options seem to do anything. The game always runs as if Fullscreened. Alt-tabbing does work and is the only way to switch windows.
At least for me, I was absolutely unable to connect with anyone online in the lobbies or connect to a room. I'm really not sure if it's a Proton issue or perhaps an update the devs did a while back. No one else on this page seems to be having this issue, so it's either just me for whatever issue or a brand-new issue. Regardless, I haven't been able to play a single match online, a complete bummer in a game like this.
The game itself runs out of the box and flawlessly, even at max settings. Online multiplayer, however, literally does not work for me no matter what settings I use or which version of Proton I attempt to run. GE, regular, Experimental, nothing. Very, very frustrating.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
Wouldn't run at all unless I added PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
Runs quite slow for my rig, probably because it's not using Vulkan to run. Not really sure how it's running out of the box for others. Would just crash on startup no matter which version of Proton I used. My other games work just fine. This one is just really picky for some reason. Playable, but yeah, runs way slower than I think it should.
Crashes on start. Tried a few versions of regular and GE Proton to no avail.
An update a while back completely broke the game for me. Even removing the files in the Movie folder does fuck all. Pretty frustrating as the game actually ran perfectly before whatever the devs did.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
None of the videos have any audio. In-game sound works perfectly, however.
So, adding PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to launch opens actually has the game launch properly. I'm presuming the videos in the 'Movie' folder have something to do with it, but the game will not launch without that option, at least for me. After that, everything runs flawlessly save for the intro video having no sound. I'd presume the other videos are silent as well.
Like others say, delete OpenAL32.dll and launch from the exe, not the launcher, if you want sound. You can still use the launcher to set up your save games and for general configuration though.
Base game seems to run just fine. Installing ALOT and/or MEUITM2, however, made the game literally unplayable for me. It would crash every other minute or so. I'm not sure which caused it as I didn't have the patience to install one or the other over and over to test it out. Fortunately, I had backups to load from. My other, non-texture mods work just fine though. I would advise you simply back everything up before trying these two.
I had to turn off DVKX in Lutris' settings as another way to stop frequent crashing.
The shadows/lighting is TERRIBLE in this game, but this is not a Linux problem. Happens on Windows as well. If you can actually get ALOT and MEUITM2 working, they fix the heck out of the issue.
Runs slightly under 60 FPS. Pretty noticeable, but also nothing game breaking. I reach the recommended specs, so it's frustrating not getting a constant 60 even if I crank the settings down.
Game ran right out of the box, which was nice. Have had no crashes or stability issues so far, nor any problems alt tabbing. Other than not being able to hold 60 FPS, the game is working wonderfully so far.
Game lags a bit during zoomed in scenes or when there's a lot of stuff happeing, but turning off KDE Compositor helped speed things up immensely.
Messed around in MyPark for a bit. Everything seemed to work fine. The servers like disconnecting in general for this game whenever it feels like, but it's hard to safe it it's a Proton issue or just another buggy 2K one.
Standard Proton was the only thing that worked for me. Glorious Eggroll wouldn't let me get past the service agreement without freezing, and Experimental refused to connect to the servers. Game runs and plays well for how buggy a mess it can be at times. 2KHook works but I couldn't click any of the options when bringing up the menu. Not sure if that's just an issue only I'm having or a Proton one.
I believe Glorious Eggroll and any custom Proton messes with this games anti-cheat. I couldn't login at all unless I use standard Proton.
Game runs perfectly fine out of the box at max settings and at full speed. There are a few frame drops here and there that are solved by lowering settings to High. Online works perfectly.
The game itself generally runs fine so long as I don't crank the settings above normal, but the Genbu Stage is a total wildcard. Sometimes it runs perfect at 60 and sometimes I get sub 20 FPS. Doesn't seem to matter what charaters are used or when it was first loaded up. I basically had to avoid it in the demo and just stick to the Training Stage, where I got a constant 60 FPS.
Had to switch to GE-Proton7-55. Regular and Experimental made the game run at a snail's pace. The demo runs alright for the most part though I feel my computer should be able to handle it a lot better. Here's hoping the retail version and some tinkering from the Proton community can really help.
Ubuntu's launcher/menu bar stays on screen even if you pick fullscreen/borderless. If you pick fullscreen, change the resolution, and then change it to your preferred resolution, it fixes the issue. No Big Picture mode required.
Game ran right out of the box and at 60. Only seems to go lower than that if the game has to load something for the first time like a stage. Note that for whatever reason, only d-pad or keyboard buttons can control the menus, but analog sticks work just fine in game. I had an issue with a USB Saturn pad I wanted to use for the game not working because it treats the D-Pad like an analog stick and thus I can't control any of the menus. Otherwise, the game works flawlessly for me with default Proton.
Ran perfectly out of the box using Proton 7.0.
The menus randomly slow to a crawl, though the frame rate is fixed when you enter a match. I'm not sure if this is a bug specific to Proton or the game in general considering it's new. I've also had a single freeze while going back to character select.
Online works just fine. Played a couple of matches against randos with no issue. Netcode is buttery smooth.
The menus, for me at least, have been busted since launch. They randomly bring the frame rate to a crawl and are a killer on my GPU. Patches have made this issue less frequent, but it's still there. I'm confident the issue is with the game itself as matches themselves run fine.
As others have said Matchmaking is pretty much broken. It has been for me personally long before the Rugal update. Pretty much a killer for a fighting game. The PC port of XV in general is an absolute mess, and most of the issues should have been fixed long before the game launched. That's what a beta test is for, SNK.
An update to my original review. While the game itself is excellent, all the bugs and silly glitches have really ruined the experience.
