EAC works now. game runs out of the box with nothing missing.
Today's update brought EAC compatibility with Linux and the Steam Deck. Enjoy!
Again, fixing the playback crashing in movelist would make the experience perfect.

After more than two weeks we don't have an official way of playing the game online. Offline mode runs fine and the game is good, but no online play defeats its purpose. In the meantime, your best bet is to play other hero shooters that support Proton / Linux, like OW2 or TF2.
Great out of the box experience with some minor issues
Delay netcode
The short videos on the Movelist section do not play and will crash the game if you stay in that section for too long. The opening movie does not play.
Removed the videos in the Movie folder
Without tinkering, the game crashes at launch. This is the case since the last update of the game; it did not have this problem before.
Recent report: Works pretty much out of the box with current Proton forks. (Used Proton Experimental in my case)
Game runs nearly perfect offline, but online always crashes. People need online play for fighting games.
Deactivate Vsync in rEngine.ini on the game's folder
Online always crashes, which makes online modes unplayable.
Game runs out of the box flawlessly. If you have stuttering, disable vsync on rEngine.ini on the local game's file.
Fullscreen steals mouse focus even if the application is minimized. Switch to Borderless (Virtual Screen Mode) in Enviroment settings.
Opening the Steam Overlay freezes the game and crashes
No longer runs terribly on NVIDIA GPUs
Random slowdowns, possibly due to shaders being compiled
Seems the 535 update for the NVIDIA driver + Proton Experimental on Linux fixed the game's performance problems
No issues whatsoever.
Online's broken since Rugal update. Matchmaking is also broken in every platform / console

Installed ucrtbase.dll following Overlords's advice
The game disconnects at any random point since Rugal update
SNK should focus on fixing this issues, as they are a big deal breaker for the game. Shame, as the game is really good. Just another solid KOF game held down by it's subpar PC port.
SInce my last review, the game and its Proton support have gotten to a point I don't experience any issues.
SNK's rollback needs some work but its still good nonetheless
