It run perfectly until patch on May 21, but after that the launcher gives an error message about not finding a running steam client. It runs if I start the game (xcom.exe) directly (instead of the launcher), but I don't know how to do that with proton. So I used Lutris. The game runs perfectly, but it is in some kind of debug mode, and it is pretty slow.
