The text on some screens in he world can be a bit small
Enabling antialisating causes a black screen during gameplay
Use the touchscreen or Steam button + right touchpad mouse to enable controller input in controls settings. Once done everything is accessible with a controller and the UI is more controller friendly. Easy 60fps on highest settings.
Tried many different proton versions and cannot get further than the ESRB rating screen before the game crashes.
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%
I've tried several times over the years to get this one running and it has always either crashed at the ESRB logo or given me an infinite loading screen after the Ubisoft logo.
Today however it is suddenly working. The launch options are required for me to get past the infinite loading screen. I have only tried the first 2 levels so far, but all seems well.
The native linux version crashes after 5-10 seconds, and also doesn't seem to support controllers. Running under proton works fine with the official controller layout.
Requires Steam Button + Right Touchpad mouse to navigate the launcher on the default layout. Windows launcher has some display issues.
Linux version has no audio at all.
Severe framerate drops when playing highlight videos, 2 - 10fps. Gameplay is fine on both versions.
Linux version sometimes crashes when exiting a level. Windows version via proton always crashes when attempting to play snowy levels, preventing further progress in the game.
Currently the only way to play this game the whole way through is to either use the linux version and have no audio, or use the windows version and switch to the linux one for snowy levels to avoid the crashes.
Default settings give 30-60fps depending on what's going on. Max settings seem possible with a 30fps cap, but I've reduced all settings to low/off except Texture Quality (Very High), SSAO (On) and Bokeh Depth of Field (On) and get 60fps a majority of the time. Large explosions cause brief drops. which matches my experience with this game on other platforms.
AMD_VULKAN_ICD=AMDVLK %command%
Game takes a long time to load on startup
Switching to AMDVLK was required for me, otherwise the game was unplayable due to severe artifacting.
You'll need to use the Steam Button + Right trackpad mouse to navigate the launcher window. This is also required to access the control settings menu in-game.
The game prompts you to click a button with the mouse to display the main menu, but the start/menu button on the default controller layout also works here.
Native linux version runs much worse than the windows version via proton, but both are playable.
Use the touchscreen or Steam button + right trackpad mouse to enable gamepad in input settings. Once done everything is accessible via controller. Easy 60fps on highest settings.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8=n,b" %command%
protontricks 70650 directmusic
required for background music to work. If this fails to install you will need to delete the existing dm*.dll
and dsouind.dll
symlinks from your prefix's system32 and systemwow64 directories.
d3d8to9 is required otherwise the game will not render correctly and will crash when selecting a level. Copy d3d8.dll to XOM/bin directory.
Need to use Steam Button + Right Trackpad mouse to interact with the launcher on the official layout.
The picture-in-picture camera is distorted and does not track things correctly, instead showing random parts of the map.
Easy 60fps on highest settings. Some ingame control prompts show keyboard controls.
