Minor slowdowns when opening the civilization selection screen but other than this it's fine
I suspect the game has servers in EU and US only, so I had a high ping, but even then it was playable and enjoyable.
Game would run at about 70 FPS but it looked like it was running 30 FPS or less.
Aside from the latency issues, the performance issues indicate a probable bad optimization from the game developers. I have a 144Hz monitor and the game wasn't running at 144Hz. An average of 70 FPS felt like I was playing the game on an old computer at about 30 FPS.
Game starts but is a bit laggy for about 5-10 minutes (10-20 FPS). After a few minutes it goes up to 150 FPS (using Interval Immediate setting) and then, after undocking, the same thing happens but it will take much less time to increase your FPS.

The startup option MESA_VK_WSI_PRESENT_MODE=fifo vblank_mode=0
was required to get FreeSync to work properly. Without these options, the game would feel slow even at 80-90 FPS, and according to my monitor, the refresh rate was around 48Hz.
The game is now capped at my monitor's refresh rate (120Hz) and it runs smoothly. Even when it drops to 80 FPS, the monitor is still running at 120Hz thanks to FreeSync Premium.

I had an error related to Visual C++ not being found. Switched to Proton Experimental and the game launched successfully.
Requires corefonts, dotnet40 and dotnet45 for the game to work. Otherwise it would run the loading screen for about 10 seconds, and crash.
Significant performance issues right now, unplayable. 5 FPS at the KSC scene. Tutorial videos don't play properly.
gamemoderun %command%
3-5 FPS once inside the game.

Epic Online Services didn't work, wouldn't show my friends list or notify me of a pending party invite.
Multiplayer works but Epic Online Services is not working with the latest version of Proton Experimental.

Despite being reported as Platinum, this game isn't Platinum, it still has some significant performance issues before being considered Platinum. Such a shame that ProtonDB tricks users into reporting false information.
The experimental branch that replaces the current OpenGL renderer for a Vulkan one is currently broken for NVIDIA GPUs, resulting in bad performance. On the normal branch, the game was at a stable 60 FPS on high settings, but kept dropping to 30 FPS after a few minutes.
I couldn't replace WINED3D with DXVK using Proton's runtime options.

Crashes when opening the world map or when using teleport spells
The Zink Mesa driver is required for better performance. There is a "native" Linux client, but it seems to be using Proton either way. The native version crashes every time you use a teleport spell. On Proton Experimental, it crashes less often, but they still happen frequently.

Mouse wasn't being captured by the game on fullscreen.
If you have a multi-monitor setup, use hax11 to enforce mouse capture inside the window boundaries.

Game wouldn't capture mouse clicks sometimes, had to Alt-Tab between windows until it started working
Slight performance issues compared to Windows.
Changing voip settings crashes the game
Fresh Linux install. With the native client, game is capped at 60FPS and starts on the wrong monitor. Not an issue if you use windowed mode but then you must play at a smaller resolution. Vulkan workaround (changing config.blk settings to "vulkan") results in a black screen.
Proton doesn't work either, when I click play, nothing happens and the launcher closes.
Launcher doesn't work. Got 150+ FPS with the Vulkan backend by changing the drivers in "config.blk" and running the game via win32/aces.exe - running the launcher will override your custom settings unless you set the file as read-only.
EAC isn't implemented yet, which means you can still play the game through Proton. Using these options, you don't need to set your config.blk file as read-only: gamemoderun "/mx500/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/War Thunder/win64/aces.exe" %command% -safe -NoLauncher -noeac -forcestart -driver:vulkan
Update 1.91.0.150 doesn't work with launch options to launch the game with Vulkan backend, safe mode, no EAC and no launcher. Gaijin is slowly and silently killing Linux and Proton support at every new update.
