Almost flawless
Occasionally a bar of static would flicker across the screen (very infrequent)
Aside from the rare graphical bug, the game ran perfectly.
PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1 %command%
When using a standard version of Proton, the game has frequent performance drops, more so than on Windows. The frametimes are stable, but looking in the wrong direction might drop your FPS from 140 to 90. However, using a version of Proton with NTSync enabled massively improves performance. The performance drops are still present, but they are less significant and more in-line with performance on Windows.
Out of the box, the game runs accurately but slower than Windows. Enabling NTSync brings performance on par with Windows.
Ran flawlessly out of the box
No tweaks needed, flawless out of the box experience.
Change Compatibility Configuration
Echoing other reports here: running this game in its default Proton configuration results in stutters and horrible framepacing. The native Linux version does run perfectly but it requires you to be in desktop mode to launch it. To get around this I followed the same steps as another reporter.
- Change game compatibility to Steam Linux Runtime and let the required files download.
- Go to https://github.com/Scrumplex/Steam-Play-None and follow the installation instructions.
- Go back to game mode and set game compatibility to None (this should be a new option).
The only downside to this is that the native Linux version of the game does not track Steam achievements. It does have an internal achievement tracking system though, so launching the game through Proton again will pop any achievements previously gained.
Runs just as well, if not better, than on Windows. Frametimes can be inconsistent but it usually sits at 60 fps. Occasionally certain effects or areas can tank the framerate, but Windows experiences the exact same frame drops.
Works perfectly out of the box
Aside from the poor optimization (the same as on Windows), the game runs flawlessly out of the box.
Suffered from freezes and stutters on Windows. This ran flawlessly out of the box.
The game ran well (near 90 FPS) and had no problems with simultaneous touch and controller input.
Completely flawless experience, ran at a stable 90 FPS with no noticeable frame drops.
Demo ran (near) flawlessly out of the box
Demo ran flawlessly out of the box, no tweaks or changes needed. Only issue was one crash over the course of ~3 hours of playtime.
gamescope -w 3440 -h 1440 -f -- %command%
Game ran at a 3438x1438 resolution instead of the expected 3440x1440. This left a bright, one pixel line along the edge of the screen.
Running the game with gamescope fixed the resolution bug and let the game fullscreen properly.
Ran flawlessly natively
The native Linux version runs flawlessly, no tinkering (or proton) needed
gamescope -W 3440 -H 1440 -f --mangoapp %command%
Suffers from "jittery" frametimes
Despite averaging a stable 60 FPS, this game's frametimes are "jittery" (constantly bouncing between 16.6ms and 16.8ms). Alt-tabbing out of the game and back in resolves this issue temporarily, but it always returns (usually when loading a new game or changing menus).
Using the gamescope launch option seems to permanently keep the frametimes stable. I also launched Steam with the steam -steamos3
command to get a working controller through Steam Input. The only downside is that this causes adaptive sync to become very unstable, causing horrible VRR flicker.
I would recommend using gamescope with adaptive sync disabled for the best experience.
A black checkboard pattern appears on ground textures
Changing versions of Proton (experimental, hotfix, GE) or game settings did not resolve the texture issues.
Switching to Proton Experimental fixes the texture bug that affects the ground and cars. Performance also seems to be very comparable to Windows.
