Great game to play on the Deck, set the graphic settings to medium, lower the TDP to 8 and set fps limit to 30 or 40. Good battery life.
TDP lowered to 8
Crackling audio after resuming sleep mode.
Some slowdowns during some dungeons and open world sections of the game.
The Steam Deck remains as the perfect platform for playing the Utawarerumono series, 100% recommended.
Set TDP Limit to 8.
Works great like every The Legend of Heroes game I've played so far. I had to copy the Trails from Zero, Trails to Azure, Trails of Cold Steel III and Trails of Cold Steel IV save data manually to the Reverie folder in order to start a new game with every save data imported. Make sure you have the games installed, I don't think this will work without them installed beforehand. Follow these instructions:
Open Konsole.
Type the following commands in order (1668510 belongs to Zero, 1668520 belongs to Azure, 991270 belongs to Cold Steel III and 1198090 belongs to Cold Steel IV)
cd ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata
cp -r 1668510/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/"Saved Games"/Falcom/* 1668540/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/"Saved Games"/Falcom/
cp -r 1668520/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/"Saved Games"/Falcom/* 1668540/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/"Saved Games"/Falcom/
cp -r 991270/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/"Saved Games"/Falcom/* 1668540/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/"Saved Games"/Falcom/
cp -r 1198090/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/"Saved Games"/Falcom/* 1668540/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/"Saved Games"/Falcom/
- Done, now you can start a new game and it will detect the CSIII save data.
Alternatively you can install the game on a Windows computer and it will not have problems detecting said save data, just start a new game and save, then switch to Steam Deck and load this new save data.
Lowered TDP limit to 7w. Got around 7 hours of battery.
Played through the entirety of Trails of Cold Steel on Steam Deck OLED and had a smooth and pleasant experience. I didn't have some of the problems listed by other users like crackling audio after exiting sleep mode but I did experience two crashes right before saving the game (the game saves before crashing so it's nothing serious).
My suggestion is to lower the TDP to 7w and set the fps limit to 45, great battery life and performance.
I had some problems with diagonal movement, which caused the character to walk slowly instead of running, this might be caused because the game was developed for PS Vita and it might have carried some problems with the controller when the game was ported to PC. The solution is simple: go to controller settings (just select the controller icon placed next to the cog icon before starting the game) then press on edit and go to joysticks, select the settings icon on the left joystick and you will see an option called Stick Response Curve, just select aggressive and the diagonal movement issue will be fixed.
Lowered TDP limit to 7w.
If you previously played Trails of Cold Steel I and want to transfer the save data you will need to do so in your Pc because the transfer will not work with Steam Deck. Just install the game on Pc, start a new game and when prompted transfer the save data, save the game and you will have you data transfered.
Just like Cold Steel, I'm having a flawless experience. Only things I changed were the TDP limit to 7w, changed the controller layout to the community one called Trails of cold steel II binding in order to have the turbo mode mapped on right trigger and changed the Stick Response Curve to Aggressive to solve an issue with diagonal movement. Only thing I noticed is that when exiting the game from ingame menu it will crash, nothing major because it does what you want it to do which is exit the game.
Made changes to map the turbo button to R4 button (the one on the back)
Set TDP limit to 8, got around 8 hours of battery.
The CP bar was hard to read, aside from that some minor UI Elements that were hard to read too.
Crackling audio after coming back from sleep mode. A restart fixes this problem.
I had a very pleasant experience playing this game, it runs pretty well and plays incredible on the Deck, just make some tweaks to get that turbo button where you want (the default is the L3 stick button and you have to keep it pressed so it's rather annoying).
TDP Limit set to 8.
Played throught the whole game and didn't experience any issues aside from not being able to exit the game from the main title screen. Everything worked great.
If you want to load the Trails of Cold Steel 3 save data you have to do it manually and make sure you have the game installed. Follow these instructions in order to manually copy the Cold Steel III save data folder to the Cold Steel IV save data folder:
Open Konsole.
Type the following commands
cd ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata
cp -r 991270/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/"Saved Games"/Falcom/* 1198090/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/"Saved Games"/Falcom/
- Done, now you can start a new game and it will detect the CSIII save data.
Alternatively you can install the game on a Windows computer and it will not have problems detecting said save data, just start a new game and save, then switch to Steam Deck and load this new save data.
Runs great OOTB, really good experience on the Deck. Amazing VN to immerse yourself and enjoy an incredible story.
TDP Limit set to 5, FPS set to 30.
TDP Limit to 5, fps to 30
Played through the whole game withouth encountering a single issue except that I couldn't load the Mask of Deception saved data, but I did what the user teefs28846 said to import the data and had no problems, I even got all achievements in my playthrough. Great battery life, plays absolutely phenomenal on the Deck, totally recommended platform on which to play the Utawarerumono series.
TDP limit set to 5, fps to 30.
Crackling audio during the opening sequence.
