mapped A + B to L4 + L5 as per personal prefrence.
Installed SenPatcher and the HD Texture Pack via Desktop mode.

Performance Notes
The game runs well at 60Hz (without untimate draw distance enabled that is), but in my case with the SD OLED I wanted to see how far i could push it...
Beyond 60Hz, the CPU becomes more of a bottleneck than the GPU.
Disabling SMT using 4 threads only recomended, the game doesn't need 8 cores and prefers the higher clocks this brings. I used Decky Loader with Power Tools with a game specific profile to achive this.
In-Game Settings
- Framerate: Unlimited (capped to 77Hz based on performance testing in several locations)
- Resolution: 1280x720
- MSAA: 4x (Performance stable; not GPU bound in most test locations)
- TrSSAA: Enabled
- Anisotropic Filtering (AF): Enabled
- Shadow Resolution: Medium
(Higher settings caused performance drops in areas with dense foliage or detailed shadows) - Shadow Distance: Default
(Increasing caused frame drops in foliage-heavy areas) - Shadow Casters: All
- Shadow Filtering: Default
(Soft looked worse visually; PCSS was too demanding) - HBAO+: Enabled
- Ultimate Draw Distance: Disabled
(Caused dips below 60 FPS in certain areas; unfortunately increases pop-in) - High-Quality Depth of Field (HQ DoF): Enabled
- High-Resolution UI Font: Enabled

Guide for installing SenPatcher and TOCS2 HD texture mod:
You can download senpatcher from: https://github.com/AdmiralCurtiss/SenPatcher/releases
and TOCS HD textures from: https://steamcommunity.com/app/748490/discussions/0/2860219962081641200/
Follow the HD texture download instructions and copy the mod file into place....
SenPatcher application will need some workarounds to get it to correctly patch the mods and settings onto the game, follow the instructions here: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/286968-the-legend-of-heroes-trails-of-cold-steel-iv/80150903
Lastly, the patcher will generate a dinput8.dll, so add this to the game launch commands under properties: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8.dll=n,b" %command%

habe zu 100% nur auf der Steam Deck gezockt!

If you want to copy saves from the previous game (both on deck), just launch ToCSII to make the configuration files, then use the following commands in a terminal:
cd .local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata
cp -R 538680/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved\ Games/FALCOM/ed8/ 748490/pfx drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved\ Games/FALCOM/
(this is 2 lines, not 3)

I had some problems with diagonal movement, which caused the character to walk slowly instead of running, this might be caused because the game was developed for PS Vita and it might have carried some problems with the controller when the game was ported to PC. The solution is simple: go to controller settings (just select the controller icon placed next to the cog icon before starting the game) then press on edit and go to joysticks, select the settings icon on the left joystick and you will see an option called Stick Response Curve, just select aggressive and the diagonal movement issue will be fixed.
Lowered TDP limit to 7w.
If you previously played Trails of Cold Steel I and want to transfer the save data you will need to do so in your Pc because the transfer will not work with Steam Deck. Just install the game on Pc, start a new game and when prompted transfer the save data, save the game and you will have you data transfered.
Just like Cold Steel, I'm having a flawless experience. Only things I changed were the TDP limit to 7w, changed the controller layout to the community one called Trails of cold steel II binding in order to have the turbo mode mapped on right trigger and changed the Stick Response Curve to Aggressive to solve an issue with diagonal movement. Only thing I noticed is that when exiting the game from ingame menu it will crash, nothing major because it does what you want it to do which is exit the game.

The game already run great before, now I replay it with SenPatcher to see some issue fixed

If you've finished Trails of Cold Steel I, you should be able to import that clear game save data to Trails of Cold Steel II. But you need to copy the CS1 save data from its prefix to CS2 prefix
If you plan to run the game with default steam setting, make sure Vulkan Shader Caching is on so the video cutscenes can be played. If you plan to play the game with some patches, here's the link to said patch: https://github.com/AdmiralCurtiss/SenPatcher/releases
Cannot load clear data from Cold Steel 1

Starting with proton had video issue, Switching to GE resolved the video playback issue

Full playthrough with no issues
Used SenPatcher with the HQ Texture Pack

When I leave the game open in the start menu, it sometimes crashes on its own after a while.
I experienced the whole game without problems. Slowdowns in certain areas but these were expected under my device's settings and power. I played the storyline.
The game hit the target 30 FPS, only dropping in scenes with heavy lighting effects and/or I'm playing on Battery power. I played in full-screen sometimes (at 1080p,) and in windowed mode (at 900p.)

gamemoderun %command%
SenPatcher v0.8.4 and ToCS II HD Texture Pack v6.00
No crashes or any unexpected behavior throughout my entire playthrough. Character models will stall during cutscenes if framerate is unlocked above 60FPS, but this is not a linux exclusive bug. All you need to do is toggle turbo mode to "unstall" the character model.
Just did the same thign that worked with Cold Steel 1: changed to proton 7.0-4. Played 5 hours yesterday, no crashes, everything pok, videos ok

Very minor delay when enemies die during combat, couldn't test if that's proton or the game though as on my W10 the whole game was in slowmotion for some reason.
Same as CoS - Laptop preset gives about 6h of playtime.
Sometimes crackling after coming out of sleep
Saves from Trails Of Cold Steel 1 doesn't transfer. Used Win PC to start a game with transfered save, and launch on steamdeck afterwards
Most of the times it's very good, but in some scenes I saw that characters polygons are less detailed than on PC. Maybe some artifact.
Everything that was changing is addition, the game can be played without tweaking. Also graphical artifats might be solved by changing details in the game configurations, I haven't set best ones.
Audio sometimes becomes garbled after waking from suspend.
Runs great on deck with no configuration. Only issue I encountered was the audio would sometimes become garbled after waking from suspended state, requiring a restart of the game. Solid 60 fps with 5+ hours battery life using the 'laptop' graphics setting.

Sound sometimes stops regardless of AMD_VULKAN_ICD variable.
Crash after audio stops.
Everything works well with RADV video driver
On AMDVLK driver, occasional crashes with or without audio sudden stop 1-2 minutes ahead (though you can save your game when audio stopped playing).
On RADV driver, no crashes within my ~3 hours of play.
It seems strange for a series game, as RADV does not function properly, while AMDVLK works perfectly in ToCS1.
Also tested Proton-7.0rc3-GE-1 for 3 hours, without significant problems.
Just FYI, shader for the river looked strange when I tested with AMDVLK, and I deleted the respective shadercache folder.

Need to use GE of proton to get videos to work https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases
Audio will randomly stop playing
In certain scenes there is minor graphical tears.
Also when I Have tried to close the game down through the menu it just locks up and you have to force close the app

Unfortunately does not run as stable as the other trails game as it has major audio bugs and crashes
protontricks 748490 amstream quartz lavfilters for movie playback
audio stops playing after a while
missing textures inside of the divine knight. fixed on Proton-7.0rc3-GE-1
several crashes and lockups

Movies can be fixed in a similar way to the previous game.
protontricks 748490 amstream quartz lavfilters
Workaround for “cp: cannot create regular file ‘…quartz.dll’: Permission denied”
trash ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/748490/pfx/dosdevices/c:/windows/sys*/amstream.dll
trash ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/748490/pfx/dosdevices/c:/windows/sys*/quartz.dll
Saves from the previous game can be imported when starting a new game, if they're copied to the new prefix
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/748490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved\ Games/FALCOM/ed8/
Also see https://github.com/AdmiralCurtiss/SenPatcher/releases which can fix turbo mode by removing skip.

6.19-GE-2 - https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/6.19-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
- Install game using GloriousEggroll proton (I used 6.19-GE-2)
- Run
protontricks 748490 lavfilters wmp9 quartz devenum
- this should repair game videos, black UI elements (like when equiping orbs) etc.
Minor background glitching while in Ashen Knight interior
If you want to start new game using save from first game, you have to:
cp -r ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/538680/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved\ Games/FALCOM/ed8 ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/748490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved\ Games/FALCOM/ed8
(ofcourse you have to have first game installed to do so)
Configuration tool may generate errors when trying to open up select lists.
Then just click Continue
and try to navigate this window using:

6.16-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
If you've finished Trails of Cold Steel I, you should be able to import that clear game save data to Trails of Cold Steel II. But you need to do copy the first game save data from its prefix to this game's prefix in Proton
Same with my Trails of Cold Steel report: With this version of Proton I don’t even need to install anything else to be able to play the video. It’s just that you need to “start” it manually by pressing Esc in my case.

While it works for the most part with some tweaks, carrying over savedata from ToCS 1 to 2 has to be done manually or through a terminal.
Proton-6.5-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Only problems i have encountered so far were the opening videos and trains. Installing LAV filters(ignore the errors and warnings it spits out while installing) and Quartz.dll fixed these issues.

5.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton-GE is recommended for proper video playback. 5.21-GE-1 is the latest version I could find that worked with both the video files and the game's launcher application - most 6.x builds wouldn't load the launcher, and 6.10 (the most recent build at time of writing) loads the launcher but crashes on video playback.
If you don't care about being able to view the videos (few or none of which are really necessary), standard proton builds should work as well as anything else.
Audio would occasionally drop out completely and fail to work until the game restarted. This happened with both official and custom Proton builds.
Game would often lock up at random, and in more than one instance crashed entirely without warning.
Really disappointed in how poorly this ran compared to its predecessor - in fact, none of the previous Trails games really had issues compared to this one. I completed the game in roughly 50 hours and had 30-40 lockups and crashes in that time. At this point I'm strongly considering picking up the Switch versions of ToCS III and IV, just because they'll likely be less of a headache.

The opening and ending anime videos will only play audio.
This game has an option to import save data from the first Trails of Cold Steel. However, Proton places these files in different locations. If you would like to import a file, you will need to copy it to the new location. Using the below command in a terminal should work. cp ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/538680/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved Games/FALCOM/ed8/ ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/748490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved Games/FALCOM/
Performance is functionally identical to Cold Steel 1. If you've played that, expect the same results.
might be due to rolling release and latest drivers. would advise to save very often like after every battle if you encounter crashes
just use the latest proton GE version and you should not have to do any problems finishing the game or starting it up. The animated cutscenes are purplewashed and not sure what the problem is but not really a bother as there are barely any animated cutscenes other than the intro and travel scenes

Works out of the box. Runs great. No issues for me.
As already mentioned, the only real issue is that the intro cinematic before the main menu is graphically corrupted, but the audio for it plays fine for me. Installing lav-filters as recommended by another user caused the game to crash on startup for me, so I uninstalled it. I have the scene set to skip from the game's configuration utility anyway, so it really isn't an issue.

The only tweak necessary is installing lav-filters codecs to your wine prefix to fix the OP song cutscene. You won't be missing anything else if you decide not to. Runs on Max settings out of the box.

Game launches but the opening video is glitched. You can skip it and enter the game but it runs at a terrible framerate unless playing with v-sync on portable settings.

Followed a workaround by hornerwl ( https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1048#issuecomment-417875072 )
Game ID for CS2 is 748490, not 538680 (of CS1), so that's the difference.
Within winecfg settings, I set the system to Windows 10. I am not sure if making it as Windows 7 would make a difference.
Despite the comment in github, configuration tool works at launch, at least in my environment.
This even worked finte with DualShock 4 via bluetooth.
Very rare freeze (happened once in ten hours+ of play time) Auto save does not appear to be working, so save often manually!

Crashes on startup
