Runs out of the box on small maps. Large maps require PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE launch option. I tend to get crashes after changing scenarios. The game doesn't honor running in 1080p with my native desktop at 4k (camera is messed up). Buttons on controller wont change, although default buttons work on xbox 360 controller. The game once loaded, never crashes and is very playable.
With the Proton version 8.x update, I needed to install amdvlk on arch (pacman -S amdvlk). Otherwise it would crash on start with 0x00003 error.
WAYLAND_DISPLAY= %command% -vulkan
Window flashing on boot, video to fix: https://youtu.be/8K2pCrj-DI4
I created a video showing how to start CS2 on Wayland with multiple monitors. Steps:
Start CT2 When the left right "flashing" begins, hold your windows move key, and then start pulling the steam window to the left little bits Repeat until the CT2 window beings flashing on only one screen Holding your windows move key, drag the CT2 window to the other monitor. Now it will be flashing up and down on the main screen. Alt+tab to the steam window Alt+tab back to the CT2 window The game will now start.
Runs perfect at full speed and ultra settings out of the box. I changed my rendering from DX to vulkan.
Doesn't work anymore because of anti-cheat
Don't buy this game! It use to work flawlessly. On September 14th 2020, an anti-cheat was implemented and now Linux users just receive the message "Anti cheat not initialized" when you try to start a game.
The game ran without Esync disabled but, while saving the, game would freeze for several minutes and every ~30minutes it would crash to the desktop. After disabling Esync the game ran smooth as butter. I have everything maxed out on 1080p, and it gets 100-120fps in the benchmarks. Honestly I'm blown away how well this runs. I did a couple other things, not sure if they contribute to my success: save games locally not to cloud, winetricks corefonts and ms-fonts installed.
Tried every tweak I could think of, nothing works. Game wont start. I couldn't find any meaningful error messages either.
I just tested with Proton 4.2-1. Still broken. I've played for ~10-15hr through Lutris without any issues. No useful information to be found in the logs. I've tried all combinations of environment variables, nothing seems to help yet.
Added -onethread. I installed xact, but I'm not sure why. The audio was fine for me before installing it, and after installing xact, the application bar across the top in gnome3 doesn't go away in full screen anymore. Game plays perfectly. Smooth and beautiful.
The first load takes several minutes where the game appears to be frozen. Don't touch anything, just let it do its thing. After that, everything runs perfectly.
"Graphics card does not meet the minimal specifications requirements" when running GE 8x, experimental or no launch args all caused this.
VKD3D_SHADER_MODEL=6_6 gamemoderun %command%
With the launch args and 8.0-3 booted, compiled shaders. When clicking on new game, the game freezes and then CTD.
env MANGOHUD=1 vk_radv %command% --skip-launcher
On arch, I had to install: yay -S vulkan-amdgpu-pro amd-vulkan-prefixes
After that, I used these launch args: env MANGOHUD=1 vk_radv %command% --skip-launcher
The game booted and played well after that. FSR2, resolution set to 70% yields a constant 60fps at 4k ultra
Everything ran smooth on highest settings 1080p out of the box. Frame rate was great, 60-80. Mouse cursor is a bit small. Similar alt+tab issues as others.
After selecting the experimental branch under subnautica beta, everything runs perfectly. Great frame rate with all settings maxed out. No visual artifacts. Mods work great. Mouse behaves. xbox 360 controller is still insane. The steam controller works well minus the analog joystick, it emulates a d-pad.
The game runs rather well except for the seemingly random crashes during loading quicksaves
Proton-5.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
My game kept crashing when loading quicksaves. I went into the ~/.steam/steam/compatibilitytools.d/Proton-5.21-GE-1 directory and edited the proton script changing self.wine_bin = self.bin_dir + "wine" to self.wine_bin = self.bin_dir + "wine64" on line 135. This helped reduce crashes by an order of magnitude. Now crashing happens infrequently.
I couldn't get the game to launch with bottles or steam. If I exec protonrun directly on command line it starts? Not sure why.
WINEPREFIX="/home/ldupin/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1167630/pfx/" /home/ldupin/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Proton\ -\ Experimental/files/bin/wine64 teardown.exe
If you're an arch user, you need to make sure you DO NOT have amdvlk and lib32-amdvlk. If those packages are installed, the game will not launch through steam. Otherwise, it plays perfectly on D12.

This is adapted from the forum post: http://www.tm-forum.com/viewtopic.php?p=196489#p196489
After doing the aforementioned running on proton 5.0-9 my game ran at max graphics, with fully working audio. When running in proton 4.11, everything was graphically perfect but I had no car audio.
