Tried different versions of Proton and different combinations of launch options based on comments from here. Some wouldn't launch, some would open a weird small glitched window, some started but froze at the CDPR logo. The only one that worked for me is the one I chose here, Proton 7.06 and the selected launcher options. The buttons are showing controller but I can live with that. Sure a mod could fix it if I really need to.
With SteamTinkerLaunch, GE Proton, MO2 Playing this game has been amazing. Fallout 3/New Vegas via Tale Of Two Wastelands and recomended mod lists. I have about 20 hours in so far and can't wait to keep playing.
I also did test it a little bit before using STL GE Proton or any mods and it seemed to work great. I played the game before so was looking for an enhanced vanilla experience.
I never lasted longer than a day playing on and off throughout the week. Woah that game is hard. Played great on the deck! Can't wait to play more and would 100% recommend to others!
After playing for a week on my deck I wanted to try on my PC and plays great too obviously. I love that gaming on linux is so easy now and want to share my experiences.
I enjoyed terraria despite never beating it and decided to give Starbound a try. That was years ago and I don't remember much from it lol. Recently though I played quite a few hours (maybe like 5 or 6) and was a really enjoyable experience once I got the hang of controls. I don't remember changing layout, I usually don't need to.

Not sure if I am lucky, or how long this will work, but I hope it works for others who seem to have been struggling lately. The only tinkering I did was the launch command I provided. No proton either. This is how it works on my machine:
- I launch Stellaris from steam.
- The paradox launcher opens.
- I launch the game via the paradox launcher.
- The game appears to begin loading, and then is minimized due to an error message stating the game has crashed and to fill out why in the text box.
- Do not close or do anything with this error message, instead just maximize stellaris from your menu/dock. (If you either hit send or cancel out of the crash message, the game will actually crash, otherwise it seems to be working perfectly fine so far)
- Enjoy!
Doing this I have been able to start a new game and begin going through the tutorial.
