Opens to black screen and crashing.
Not interested in running the mf-install workaraound as most users will not go through the trouble to do so.
used Proton Eperimental
FPS constantly dropping from 50 to 15
Used Proton experimental for the game to actually run. Performance is very poor. I know my CPU is a bit limited but the CPU was not maxed nor was the GPU.
Needed to install a gnome extension for the game to play.
Thanks to Musenkishi for posting the workaround with the gnome shell extension to fix the freezing on splash screen.
Game installs but will not launch using any available versions of proton.
For those giving it a thumbs up and stating that the game works fine if you use the Lutris installer. It does work perfectly fine via Lutris, but Lutris uses Steam for Windows VIA Wine and has nothing at all to do with proton. It is NOT using proton and you should NOT give it a positive report on protondb as it has nothing to do with proton.
I used 5.9-GE-8-ST and like others had issues with the UBIPlay overlay. I disabled it as recommended from the UBIPlay app.
Steam installs .NET Framework every time the game is launched.
For some reason the game does take much longer to load in Linux which seems to be tied to the UBIPlay Launcher. For me it installs .NET Framework on every launch.
I ran the benchmark several times in WIndows and Linux, my Linux machine having considerably lower specs but the performance was very good:
Windows 10 , Core i9 9900K@5.1 GHZ 2xNvidia RTX 2080 Supers in SLI Min FPS: 75 AVG FPS: 103 Max FPS: 131 Frames Rendered: 6052
POP!_OS 20.10 Intel Core i7 4790k@4.4 GHZ NVIDIA GTX 1080 TI Min FPS: 85 Avg FPS: 97 Maximum FPS: 109 Frames Rendered 5714
Both systems were running at 2k resolution with the High graphics quality preset, HD textures On and resolution scale of 1
I don't think anyone would enjoy jumping through all of the hoops needed to play this game on Linux.
Used steam default proton as well and several GE versions of proton
The game runs fine the first time. Experience transparent or missing textures with the Nvidia 460 driver as others have. Attempting to launch the game a second time, Uplay prompts for a login. Once logged in Uplay then asks for an activation code which obviously I don't have as it is a steam purchase. The only fix for this I found is to remove the pfx folder from steamapps/compatdata/939960 which the forces a complete reconfiguration of the game including the installation of .net and vcredist etc...
The game did work perfectly fine a couple months ago with the Nvidia 450 driver and older version of Uplay. Recent updates to Uplay have cause the behavior that makes the game a effort in futility to play.
Starting the game yields a black screen then back to desktop.
I have read some guides on mf-install but every game I have used that for has made things worse. I am not willing to jump through those hoops for this game. I also don't believe giving a game a good rating for working after you have had to apply multiple workarounds is beneficial.
Once I disabled Vsync my frametime when from 20ms to 9s and all the lag went away. Very smooth gameplay with no issues yet
Perfect out of the box, no issues at all. Using default proton no tweaks or changes.
If it were not for the initial Steam Play notification when launching the game I don't think most users would know they were running the game in Linux.
Proton-5.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Audio is about 2 seconds behind making it almost impossible to play.
Only tinker I used was the GE version of Proton but the game does launch out of the box with default proton the sound lag is evident in each. Even on other hardware.
Freezes on splash screen. Tried a few different proton versions, no change.
get some!
Tabbing out causes black screen.
Proton 4.11-13 is the only version that worked for me. At 2k resolution and very high quality preset I was getting 240 FPS. I am not sure why I get over 100 FPS more in Linux than in Windows, but I'll take it.
