I did have a problem where the game was telling me that it wasn't installed when, in fact it was. i just logged out of steam and back in and now it works.
If you are a noobie like me, make sure to checkout common fixes and tools used in games: gamemoderun and gamescope

rare slight flicker in textures and textures in incorrect places in some rare instances
I had to set my graphics settings lower than i did when i was still running on windows AND if the VRAM of the GPU is maxed out the game will crash, rather than showing a VRAM warning. HIGHLY recommend starting the game at the Low or Medium preset and disabling all antialiasing, vsync and related features to make sure that you are able to dial in graphics settings
As mentioned, if the GPU's VRAM is maxed out the game will freeze/ crash
after tweaking the graphics settings so that game runs stable without crashing, and at a 60-70+ framerate, there should be no problem when zooming around the map or doing races, i did not test cutscenes though, so they may be a different story.
Another thing worth noting is i did not play for any extended period of time.
Online appears to work out of the box, but as i dont have friends i cannot say if it works as intended
the proton that i managed to get everything working on was Proton 8.0-5, it is a decent chance it will work fine with other version, but i have not checked.

It should be noted that i only played for about 20-30 minutes so there may be problems that i havn't seen yet that may arise with longer playtime, other than this i havn't noticed any issues
If you use KDE then it will work.
This is common with 3d wallpapers as the KDE plugin does not yet support them.
If you use KDE then you will have a good experience. You will have to install the KDE plugin from here: https://github.com/catsout/wallpaper-engine-kde-plugin . Appart from the stuff that isn't supported, it works nicely.
