Runs pretty smooth considering it's in EXTREMELY EARLY ALPHA and is only native to Windows.
Ran very smooth on the game version I played using Proton Experimental. At least as smooth as a game this early in development can. Which isn't that bad really. No tinkering needed at this stage. From all the reviews the amount of bugs I've experienced and the kinds I've experienced are all present on Windows too. It would seem the game being developed should be easy to get running on Linux even without official support. Though, don't count on any review more than a few months old being totally reliable. The game dev is pretty active it seems. 100% recommend keeping an eye on this rough gem.
gamemoderun %command%
Some screen tearing which could be fixed with a tinker on Vsync.
Going fullscreen or windowed fullscreen INITIALLY caused very heavy artifacts in the main menu. However switching to windowed and changing my Anti-aliasing option in settings removed the issue and now works alright fullscreen.
The game CAN RUN without too many changes. Using the latest build of proton experimental as of this report, running gamemode, and changing my anti-aliasing option to fit my hardware made it playable. Just keep one thing in mind: MY HARDWARE BLOWS. I don't even have a dedicated GPU or CPU I have an APU (All Processing Unit), it's one thing doing two jobs. So chances are if you have hardware that's better than mine but still AMD the game would run very smoothly. And yes, this is the definitive edition.
Happy gaming!
Crashed once randomly a few hours in after starting a game on 2.0.1, did not crash again until I installed Phantom Liberty, which took about an hour. No other crashes from over 30 hours of gameplay on 2.0.1 without Phantom Liberty. Not much played with Phantom Liberty yet.
After completing all of Wakako's gigs and earning the Widow Maker iconic weapon the game gives you a "Gig" to grab the weapon from your stash. I grabbed the rifle from my trunk rather than in the stash with the quest marker. Putting the gun back, quick save/load, hard save/load, nothing I did fixed it. Still get the weapon, but the quest stays in the journal. Likely just another game bug present on Windows as well.
Plays almost exactly as I would expect it to on Windows. Hell probably better since Linux isn't a bloated OS. There are going to be bugs and such but that's just modern AAA gaming tbh. Not really a Linux issue.
Also I'm pretty sure this is listed as a tinker report because ProtonDB didn't have the 8.0-4 option for the proton version. No messing with files or launch options needed. Keep in mind newer folk that hardware matters a lot here. As I have noticed AMD hardware works well with Cyberpunk on Linux whereas NVIDIA seems to either need a handful of tinkering or just doesn't work depending on what you have.
I have not modded anything yet either. Though I would expect most will work if installed manually and any Windows dependencies are met through proton and potentially just having the files on your system. Such as .NET frameworks.
Happy gaming!
Small bug with keyboard input, but for button mashers, combo spammers, and those who are willing to deal with it the game is still fun.
Small issue with pressing certain keys at the same time. I use keyboard though, controller may not have this issue. However, using a keyboard and not being able to do certain buttons at the same time makes some combos impossible. Could be my cheap hardware or it could be keyboards in general, or maybe trying a different proton or a steam command argument might fix it.
If you're a combo master looking to play this game like an elite on Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Dead or Alive, or Tekken then I recommend looking at getting that input issue fixed. As I said before it could just be my setup. Any of the following might have an impact:
- Different keyboard
- Using a controller
- Trying different protons
- Trying a Steam launch command
- Different Distro
- Missing/Updated/Alternate packages
And there could be more. But if you're the average joe who likes Type Moon or Tsukihime it's not all that bad. Find a different combo to spam in that combo's place and it'll still be fun enough.
After the tinkering steps I describe below, MO2 launches from the Steam play button and from there you can run the game with mods.
Consider this report one for full mod compatibility. Honestly I used to have better hardware for this game when I ran Windows 10 and now that I've switched to Linux it's barely any worse performing than it was back then. I think that's impressive considering I use a budget PC with an APU. I'm confident this would actually run smoother on Linux than Windows if you used the same AMD hardware on both. Now that you know this will actually be better than Windows when you get it working I'll explain it quick.
Reinstall the game on Steam, clear ALL launch commands (like gamemoderun), force it to use proton 6.3-X, now click play and make sure the main menu works at least, feel free to start a vanilla game if you want.
First go to this github page: https://github.com/rockerbacon/modorganizer2-linux-installer Follow it closely, including the post install instructions.
You may or may not have a version mismatch between SSE and SKSE, I had this issue. To check go to the top right corner of MO2 and select the dropbox to the left of the Run button. Click SKSE. If it starts the game press the ` key to open the console and type this command (Without quotes) "getskseversion". If it tells you the version number you should be okay so skip to step 5. If it doesn't recognize the command double check your spelling, if your spelling was okay then you need to re-install skse. If back when you tried to click run it gave you an error saying the version numbers didn't match, you also need to re-install skse.
To re-install skse go to skse.silverlock.org. Read the page CAREFULLY to make sure you grab the right file. The SSE version on there may be only for legacy support and you may have to take the AE file. I did. Now you would probably wonder if you have to mess around more than usual to get the new skse version in... nope. Install skse as if you were running Windows. Just follow the install instructions in the README file and overwrite any file conflicts. Revisit my instructions to check if your skse version matches in step 3 and if it doesn't work I don't know how to help you. For me it "just works."
If you made it through all those other steps and you're here... CONGRATULATIONS! You can now run mods. You're probably going to experience lots of lag and see lots of recurring error messages and such. That's not going away! Just gonna have to put up with it, sorry. One last note: I got bodyslide to work by adding as a launch option in MO2, but not FNIS, that's it.
