Running the Steam version, "you get "bad serial key in setup" To be perfectly honest, it is better to just run and install the game outside of Steam, setup seems to be flawless after doing this. You can download a copy of the game (ONLY DO THIS IF YOU OWN IT) from Bohemia at https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma:_Cold_War_Assault Do note that a good amount of the mirrors here are dead at this point. After that, enter your CD-Key for Operation Flashpoint, or if you only own the steam version, just find it online since you technically own the software. After that, just run the installer and the game works flawlessly.
There are some shader issues that show up in the game (black spots appearing and weird noise,) which can be mostly fixed by changing the anti-aliasing from none to a higher option, and then back to none. Works fine besides that, though.
A shining example of the power of Proton
The game works flawlessly with normal Proton and runs without any issues whatsoever.
Simply rename arma3battleye.exe to arma3launcher.exe, and you are set. If you wish to run Teamspeak with your other mods, like TFAR, download the windows version of TFAR, and then run WINE from protonfolder/dist/bin/wine to install it and such.
This is a great week for Linux gaming.
Running the game on Proton is about the same as running it on Windows. Lots of bugs, jank, and shit AI. Great game though 10/10
If using standard Fullscreen, the mouse will not be captured properly. Use Borderless Fullscreen
Some strange problems such as having a massive amount of lag based upon which direction you look after a long gameplay session appear at times, requiring a game restart.
If esync is enabled, there will be occasional crashes after an average of ~45 minutes of gameplay, possibly related to tabbing in and out of the game.
The standard launcher does not work.
The launcher does not work properly as of now, and so it is required to use a custom launcher. For this, install https://github.com/muttleyxd/arma3-unix-launcher either from the Github or through the AUR.
Once that is done, you must add PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
to your launch options in order to prevent some stability issues.
For online multiplayer on Battleye enabled servers to work, you must select Proton Experimental from the Steam Play options, and ensure the Proton Battleye Runtime is installed from the Tools section of Steam.
Game closes as soon as it is started. My assumption is BE.
It's literally a music and wallpaper / image pack. There is no actual executable that is meant to be run.
Doesn't actually open the proper directory, so it must be navigated to manually.
To access the extra content pack, right click on it in Steam, and then click View Local Files.

Usage of custom Proton version is required due to manual patch by Ninja Kiwi to prevent WINE users from playing due to serverside issues.
Loading zone issue kills immersion, but overall a fun experience. Waiting for fix is recommended.
Crashes during load games. The solution to this is to save directly before the automatic loading zone, and then after the crash, restart your game and run into the loading zone as quick as possible. Doing it fast enough prevents crashes, and makes the game playable.
Works great, just use Proton Experimental.
After placing the launch options in as stated below, (make sure you put it to your steam directory that has the game installed,) it worked perfectly.
At the time of posting this, the Linux branch of the game is broken, and you have to use Proton with the Steam Version. Use Proton 3.16-8 Beta (or something newer if it works), and when you start the game for the first time, disable full screen. Then close the game, and add this to the launch options: (-force-vulkan -popupwindow). This will force Vulkan, and make the game fullscreen windowed. After this, it is totally smooth sailing. I still don't like getting spooked by Peanut though...
