You would need to manually set it on proton 9.0-x instead of the default setting after you add the Non Steam executable ArmyOps.exe
Proton 9
Full screen working fine in Prooving grounds. But in Americas Army 2.8.5 when adding it as a NON-Steam Game, everything works smoothly and playable except that it doesn't fully stretch out on 1920x1080 screens as of 2025. Both versions of the game ran fine on multiplayer
Americas Army Prooving Grounds works perfectly. Americas army 2.8.5 also very playable except there are a small black border on the screen because it doesn't fully stretch out
As of the 2.8.5 version, you have to change it from the default setting to Proton 9.0-x to get it to work smoothly
Works Great

Artifacts were dependant on Proton version but it was a trade off between frame and artifacts
Other linux distros seem to be better to play this game

gamemoderun %command%
Multiplayer runs great

gamemoderun %command%
I did not find any issues at all, worked like a dream out of the box. Linux gaming experience is better and better each day :) I only added one launch parameter, which I always do with my games to natively further increase its performance: gamemoderun %command%
Worked great, just installed it and played. Just the way it should be
Had no issues, installed and played as it should be
Valve confirmed this as playable before the servers were shut down in May; could have been only playable online
Works flawlessly out the box
It's just install and play, you don't have to configure anything before
Works nice out of the box, but the servers are empty
Game runs great, click install and play. May need lower video settings depending on your machine
Setting video settings lower improved performance

If you're okay with lower FPS, then this game is playable. It's definitely taking some getting used to for me (200 to less than 90 average).
Some textures look weird or are a little gray-scaley at times. Yet to have any permanent problems; they all go away on their own after some time (thought messing with your settings may sometimes get them to go away as well).
I can maintain 200FPS on W10 (range: 170-200FPS), presently with "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1" I am on average at 80FPS, with a range of 40-140FPS (unable to get game to stay in a match without WINED3D).
Game only playable with "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1" - yet to find working configuration otherwise.
PunkBuster
Using PROTON_USE_WINED3D the fps is around 15 - 30
Without PROTON_USE_WINED3D most maps crash on start

Occasional crashes after (some) maps have been loaded after clicking any key in loading screen if Vulkan Drivers are used (the Proton default). Affects the same maps all the time - other maps work fine.
If resolution is set to 800x600 the crashing maps load and start fine. You can set the desired resolution afterwards and the map does not crash until mapchange.
Abolutely no crashes if Wine D3D is used. Startup option "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%"
Standard Proton 5.0.9
Signing in to your AAPG-account automatically does not work. You need to enter your password each time you start the game.
Works out of the box, great experience maybe a little bit of FPS spikes at the beginning of a map.
No problems! It works 10/10
From what I've seen the only Proton version that works is 5.0-6. I haven't tested the other versions.

Occasional Video Hiccup
PunkBuster
Had to force Proton 5.0.5 in order to get rid of graphical artifacts.

There were some drops in FPS but it is playable. Need to do more testing to see if performance can be improved.
There were some decent drops in FPS.
With this version of Proton, you won't enjoy at all. Try 4.2.9 you will have a much better experience.
I have noticed black and white flickering and tearing which makes an unpleasant experience gameplay.
It seems like you need to turn down a little bit the settings to get 60+ FPS.

Had to back off some of the video settings in game but ran perfectly otherwise. Played on several different servers and maps and had no issues. I don't have mic so didn't try in game voip. Turn of the steam overlay shortcut key for Lshift or you won't be able to run.

It plays from start but there are many texture issues that I could not fix by any configuration in game, removing anti-aliasing reduces the issues but doesn't solve it, when trying to run with D9VK the game starts but locks after the menu screen, disabling Esync doesn't seem to change anything. Sort of playable but very uncomfortable.

Some glitches on screen. You can change resolution, change some parameters on graphics, but glitchs always appear-

There are some shader issues that show up in the game (black spots appearing and weird noise,) which can be mostly fixed by changing the anti-aliasing from none to a higher option, and then back to none. Works fine besides that, though.

I only ran a few maps, around an hour of play time, but PB installed, I didn't get kicked and the game ran flawlessly. Download, Install and Play!

Could not get game to load at all.

since punkbuster is the requirement we'll likely never get this game playable

Fails to load.

Does not start. Punkbuster installs just fine. Game will not launch.

Guess fails to start cause of punkbuster requirement.
