It plays from start but there are many texture issues that I could not fix by any configuration in game, removing anti-aliasing reduces the issues but doesn't solve it, when trying to run with D9VK the game starts but locks after the menu screen, disabling Esync doesn't seem to change anything. Sort of playable but very uncomfortable.
Although proton 4.11 has FAudio 19.07, I couldn't get audio to work with it, so I compiled FAudio with the flags -DXNASONG=OFF -DFFMPEG=ON, with the command "git clone git://github.com/FNA-XNA/FAudio.git && cd FAudio && mkdir build && cd build && cmake .. -DXNASONG=OFF -DFFMPEG=ON && make" then overwrited libFAudio.so.0 in the Proton 4.11 folder (dist/lib64). Also applied bBackgroundMouse=1 to the Fallout4.ini as everyone said. Careful with the xaudio option, it works but it's not definitive or perfect, the sound was still crackling a bit for me (clear crystal with FAudio), and if you try that, you need to delete the 377160 folder from the compatdata to try the FAudio.
Needs to add TZ=America/New_York %command% in launch options otherwise it closes right after started.
PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command%
The game hangs while installing DirectX on proton 8 due to a bug on that version. Switching to an older version of proton solved the problem.
The game is playable but it's difficult to understand what's going on without cutscenes. You can listen to them, but that's all.
6.5-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Used GloriousEggroll Proton-6.5-GE-2. Tried to install media foundation to fix the black screen, it didn't work.
Black Screen on all cutscenes and the menu screen, you can hear but you can't see anything
It's playable out of the box on Proton 7.0-1 but not perfect.
Audio for the intro video for new game and some other videos gradually gets out of sync.
Stutters on intro video for new game, then all the in-game videos are smooth. Also, sometimes items create stutter like the television.
Strangely, proton 7.2-GE-2 has worse performance than official proton 7.0-1.
Proton Experimental works perfectly out of the box, no issue with stutter or audio out of sync on videos, including the new game video.
Game runs fine except for small audio crackling, and even then is totally unnoticeable until the little fella start blowing his horn.
GloriousEggroll Proton-6.1-GE-2.
Audio crackling was resolved adding "PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 %command%" to the initialization options. Other than, everything works fine.
The minimize trick works on KDE Plasma but not on Awesome and Icewm, so I had to enable virtual desktop with proton tricks, but other than that it runs smooth.
Some in game animations are missing, it's playable but not ideal for this type of comedy game.
PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 %command%
Cutscene audio sometimes plays but not the animation, like the drunk worm.
Native Linux support is listed but it's not available anymore, I guess devs removed it and now it only downloads the windows files.
Performance issues like the game getting slower as you play seems to be gone, it's 100% working now, no need to manually modify files anymore.
The game start to a black screen when trying to launch first time, I waited a lot and then tried to disable fsync and steam overlay but nothing changed, then I killed the Settings.exe and the game started and I could play one match after registering, but once I exited the game and tried again, it kept crashing. I deleted compatdata folder to reinstall but now it wouldn't get out of the blackscreen despite doing the same thing.
