Works out of the box, no special commands or tweaks needed
Feels mostly like server issues but on rare occasions the whole game just closes
Runs about how I expected it with my transitional RX480 4GB (until RX6000 becomes available). Settings on low made the game playable ~60fps
A dude was floating in an invisible car and looked like he was piggybacking his partner, who was standing
I first started out with a black screen after the launcher but I only needed to use the ~oibaf Mesa ppa, update+upgrade & reboot and the game loaded up without any problems. No extraordinary bugs, no missing soundfiles, no graphical glitches besides a few "normal" bugs that I guess you would encounter on Windows aswell.
Some voicelines are missing completely or the trigger is not working. Most of the time it's completely fine, sometimes it's crackling mainly while driving, sometimes while talking to NPCs. PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=40 helps the most
Had to lower some settings and enable FidelityFX which introduces artifacts
For me the game defaulted to Borderless, when switching to Fullscreen, Alt+Tab was not an issue
Game runs okay, expected slowdowns here and there, nothing too bad
Getting this to work with a RX 6800 was interesting, but it essentially boiled down to:
- Pop 20.10
- Kernel 5.10 or newer
- AMD GPU Drivers
- AMD Sienna Cichild Firmware
- oibaf Mesa
Now all seems stable, not a single crash to date @60h playtime. The Launcher works too, can login to GOG as well. --launcher-skip is still an option
Worked out of the Box, no tweaking needed
Alt Tab is finicky, works most of the time but 1 in 20 times I couldn't get back into the game
None of these flags made a big difference (at least not that I noticed)
Game seems to crash after Alt+Tab for me but it still runs, I just can't return to it
Heavy Stuttering in Cities and sometimes inside aswell
Alt+Tab, Alt+Enter etc all degrade the performance for the session, best not to tinker with that
Limiting this Game to Physical CPU Cores only can make a significant FPS difference, but the stuttering still persists sometimes. Proton 5.9-GE-5-ST didn't work at all (?), right now I'm running on Proton 5.9-GE-3-ST and this seems the most stable for me. Seems like the performance is still random and stuttering in cities only gets bearable at best, not fixed.
Alt+Tab works most of the time, but hitting "super" sometimes forced a blackscreen that needed me to close everything else open via Alt+F4 until I found the game again
One crash in 25h of Playtime

Rename the original eg2.exe and create a softlink on evilgenius_vulkan.exe, then call that eg2.exe. After this, every Proton version I tried (5.13, Experimental, 6.4-GE, 6.1-GE) all worked flawlessly.
The game is optimized great and runs well, the slight stuttering only occurs outside of combat or parkour, so it's not really bothering.
Proton-5.9-GE-8-ST GloriousEggroll
Crackling only during every early to mid game mission, after that it stops and audio works as expected.
Light stuttering here and there but nothing breaking the general fast paced flow of the game
I had massive problems installing this game, it took me several hours trying various fixes and different versions of proton with different extra options everytime. Some of this can be excused because the GOG Servers were overloaded on launch and I'm almost certain my first few downloads got corrupted. But even then my now fully functioning install took a few hours and a headache aswell. Settings that work for me:
- Proton-5.9-GE-8-ST
- new wineprefix with mf-install
- DXVK 1.7L-9f6...
- Esync enabled
- gamemode enabled
and for installing I had to use Wine in Windows 7 compatibility mode
Works out of the Box, no issues here, no tweaking needed
Apart from few stutters (only out of combat!), fighting feels just as amazing and smooth as on Windows
Old save was on Windows, Linux started fresh
very short stutters when entering and exiting buildings and new areas
Windows has the same problems, this is not Linux specific. Limit the game to 3-6 physical cores for optimal performance
Tried everything at least once, because performance on Windows was lacking as well and I wanted to see how far I could push it
My old save was on windows and got lost
Limit the Game to 3-6 physical CPU cores. The game can't make great use of Multicore CPUs and especially no Hyperthreading
Same as above, needs a specific count of physical CPU cores to run smoothly.
