Runs perfect after installing this. https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install A better explanation how to install would be nice.
After activating official Proton testbranche the Game is running very well. Testet with proton-5.0-10-rc4.
At first start i had floating bushes and rocks. After next start issue was gone.
Some lags are present. Maybe lowering the graphics settings would help.
Changing graphics settings crashed the game sometimes.
Initially the Game was not starting. No matter which proton version i tried. (several Versions of Proton-GE)
After activating official Proton testbranche the Game is running very well. Testet with proton-5.0-10-rc4.
To join testbranch search Proton 5.0 in your Steam library, go to Properties, than Betas ans select "next -". You can check the current version by "Browse local Files.." and check the version txt file.

Game was crashing at startup after crashing ingame an creating a 0KB savegame. After deleting 0KB save (it was the autosave) , game runs smooth like before .
by using audio over nvidia hdmi the sound was crackling. tried "PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %COMMAND%" but this din't work. ended up using onboard sound and headset
had to change steam controller setting to ("off" forced / "Aus" erzwungen) to get it working
####################################################################### Had to run folowing command in terminal --> WINEPREFIX="/YOU-RPATH-TO-STEAM/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/606280/pfx" winecfg ####################################################################### added "xaudio2_7" and "xaudio2_8" at Libraries. (without quotation marks) ####################################################################### after this i started the game using following launch option in steam #######################################################################
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 PROTON_LOG=1 %command% ####################################################################### don't know if every step is necessary however after fiddling around it finally works without sound stuttering.
Steps to get it working for me: Downloaded d3dcompiler_47.dll here --> "https://lutris.net/files/tools/dll/d3dcompiler_47.dll" and copied it to gamefolder --> "/Steam/steamapps/common/Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom/x64"
Protontricks did not work for me. Got following errormessage: ###You are using a 64-bit WINEPREFIX. Note that many verbs only install 32-bit versions of packages. If you encounter problems, please retest in a clean 32-bit WINEPREFIX before reporting a bug.### And the needed .dll was not available. (Unknown arg d3dcompiler_47 )
Some scenes are stuttering. Maybe this would be the same with the win version.
Sometimes the game freezes at exiting. (not a big deal)
Runs great with Proton Experimental (1621613059 experimental-6.3-20210521b) and the current mesa driver (21.1.1). Only some videos won't play correctly. Maybe it's media foundation related. (did not tested this)
DXVK 1.0 - 3440x1440 (Hex edited .exe) - high settings - sometimes frames are dropping below 60fps - will try DXVK 1.1 and update
Crashes after some minutes of gaming.
Things i tried but did not work
Disabling Steam Overlay PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command% PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command% PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% PROTON_USE_SECCOMP=1 %command%

had to disable smt in bios for performance boost.(software solution also available) also had weird mouse issue. alt+tab or alt+enter usually solved this for me
Used following start option in Steam -->
PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30 %COMMAND%
(with this Crackling issue was solved for me)
Black screen and game seems to freeze while it was supposed to play a video.
