Set CPU Governor to "powersave" with the Decky PowerTools plugin
The game is set to controller only. MKB input is disabled by default.
Very demanding on the GPU. 1080p (w/ upscaling) is possible but not at a stable 30fps, you must use VRR.
CPU usage seems broken. Both on Windows and Linux it is very high. Obviously this is bad for battery life. Setting CPU governor to "powersave" changes CPU power consumption from 8W to 1.5W.
The game has some specific configuration for the Deck. By default, "Input Mode" is set to "Controller Only". You can't persistently change this option, unless you set "SteamDeck=0" in the launch parameters.
Limit CPU to 1800Mhz.
Latest (Xess) update introduced significant CPU performance issues. Large frame drops occur regularly now.
Timefall causes texture to flicker between normal and 'degraded' state sometimes.
Before latest update, game ran fairly well. Native 720p with low settings, AO and reflections enabled. Without CPU limit, the CPU alone draws a constant ~8W, causing terrible battery life and a screaming fan. Game ran mostly stable 30fps with 1800Mhz limit for CPU at a total power consumption of about 12-13W, i.e. 2.5-3 hours of battery life.
However, latest update destroys performance.
Impossible to get a consistent framerate in all areas in addition to frequent stutter. It's simply a poor experience.
Audio sometimes drops out, also seemingly due to memory issues
Frequent seconds-long stutter due to memory/VRAM issues. Anything that is not currently in memory can cause stutter when it needs to be loaded. Loading a new area frequently introduces stutter, but (re)loading animations can do so as well. Jumping, dodging, and abilities can all cause stutter if they were booted from memory due to loading a new area.
Settings for mostly consistent 30fps, albeit with frequent stutter, for 1080p docked:
1600x900 with FSR 2 Performance ingame. Then through gamescope enable FSR upscaling.
- effects: high
- material: low
- fog: medium
- sky: low
- foliage: low (medium is too much when in forests)
- post process: high
- shadow: medium
- texture: low
- view distance: medium
- population: medium
(just don't look too closely at the screen)
Unfixable stutter, but no more than on Windows.
Runs fine on Proton. However, a patch is desparately needed. No matter where you run it, the current version has framerate drops, as well as camera hitches. There is random stutter everywhere, seemingly related to VRAM issues. Frame stability is nowhere to be found.
NB: Does not run on Intel Arc! Crashes after startup warning, at which point on Windows the shader compilation would normally start.
lower settings. optional fps cap
Possibly slight input lag. Timing of blocks feels different from Windows.
Slight stutter when loading new areas.
Unplayable stutter on latest Proton-GE, Experimental and/or 7.x. Runs fantastically (bar some stutter when loading) on 6.3.8.
Change the font in the options menu or use the ingame looking glass.
