If you don't want to deal with anything online, such as events, this game can be enjoyable.
Despite obviously being connected to the Internet, going to "Adventures" then to "Events" gives a message that I'm offline, or need the latest version of the game. I'm online, and the game is up to date
Due to this, I cannot access events.
This problem is identical, when running the game in Linux native mod, and various proton versions, including GE versions
gamemoderun %command%
Default in-game settings included DLSS super resolution, and max settings. Framerates were decent.
gamemoderun ./DDLC.sh # %command%
Running without the launch params specified gives a performance warning, tanking the framerate down to 1FPS, no matter which version of Proton is used.
- Download ALVR Launcher for Linux.
- Install SteamVR. (If not already installed)
- Install Half-Life: Alyx. (If not already installed)
- Make sure your headset is connected to the same network as your PC.
- Use Meta Horizon app on mobile device to enable developer mode on headset. (Meta headsets only)
- Launch ALVR.
- Launch SteamVR from within ALVR on the PC.
- Launch ALVR in your headset.
- Switch to Steam in the VR interface. (On Quest 2, quest button on left controller, then click the Steam icon.)
- Launch Half-Life: Alyx.
- Play out of the box.
Audio only plays from the PC speakers, and not the headset speakers.
Subtitles are not rendered, when enabled in-game.
Game saves from Windows do not transfer to Linux, so you have to start from the beginning on first launch.
Performance and lag can vary, depending on network/LAN congestion.
Proton-6.19-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Installed GloriousEggroll's custom Proton-6.19-GE-2 into Steam, using instructions on the github page, then restarted Steam. Replaced the file prototype2engine.dll in the game install directory for the DRM fix. (Not cracking this causes the game to just not launch)
Installed mfplat as directed here https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-installcab to get past the endless "Now Loading..." screens leading into the first cutscene.
minor graphical artifacts involving reflections, water/rain, and seeing through glass on some doors/windows
Cutscenes (e.g. videotapes) cause crashing to desktop with mfplat installed.
Other than the cutscene crashes, and minor graphics issues, this game runs GREAT, with graphics maxed, and image quality at 100%. Unfortunately, I have yet to complete the game due to cut scene crashes.
Game played perfectly after switching proton versions. Newer proton versions caused the game to be unresponsive once the main menu was displayed.
gamemoderun %command%
The game worked out of the box with proton experimental. I use gamemode for all games.
