Constant freezes and crashes

The game takes 30 seconds to even start to launch, then takes a few minutes to get to the main menu. Once you get into the game for a few seconds it runs super smooth and loads in fine but then freezes. A minute or two later the game runs for another smooth few seconds then freezes, rinse and repeat.
I tried with various launch options and none at all. Tried different versions of Proton. Tried switching the game from DX11 to DX12 as well as Windowed and Full Screen. Unfortunately it is unplayable.
Just works out of box. Runs amazingly well
Must admit I haven't played Cities Skylines II since release and that was on Windows. It ran, okay at best. Now 18 odd months later just installed it again since switching to Linux and it runs amazingly well. No issues, super smooth and great frame rate even with a fairly large city. I do not know how much is down to Linux or just that the game has been patched a bunch since I last played it; but it feels native.
SteamDeck=1 %command%
Have to put "SteamDeck=1 %command%" in the launch options otherwise the game will not start. Sometimes I have to press Play twice in Steam before the game starts and sometimes says the game is already running. Stopping and starting usually resolves. Once in the game it seems to work perfectly! I've maxed out the settings and it is super smooth. I'd say it runs smoother than GTA V (Legacy) works in Windows on my hardware. No stability or bugs I've come across. I didn't try GTA Online and never will but the Story Mode runs perfectly.
Out of box without tinkering runs really well
Sometimes when loading the game audio would not work. ALT-Tabbing a few times resolves or switching audio devices to something else and back again
Very minor and infrequent texture loading/streaming. Randomly, chickens are invisible for me which made it difficult to feed them as part of Theresa's quest. One cutscene everything except the characters was a black texture. Only happened once though.
Once in a while the game will crash to the desktop. Not frequent enough to be a major problem, maybe once every few hours.
Has some minor issues but nothing super serious. This is without any tinkering, out of box. Game runs really well
Worked out of the box with only one minor issue
Did not change any compatibility, launched fine. Initially had garbled graphics/black blocks over the screen. Changing the game to Windowed then Fullscreen has resolved this even when re-launching the game. Runs excellently
Other than graphical glitch on menu unless you set to Window Fullscreen, works great!
On start up half the screen has black blocky corruption. Changing the game to Window Fullscreen rather than Fullscreen fixed it
I haven't changed any proton settings or anything. Completely out of box it works great! Had to change to Windowed Fullscreen but on ultra settings the game is super smooth. Haven't seen any other issues once in game, super smooth and works great.
Works great out of box!
Changed nothing. Installed and ran perfectly. Super smooth and plays great! It does say "game not running on SSD" in the graphics options even though I am running it off an NVMe SSD, but has no impact on the game at all.

Didn't set any compatibility mode or change launch options, just worked great! Performance seems good. I have not tried installing addons but the OOBE is good!
