The Flatpak version of Steam gives an environment where the game runs without any issues.
The problem that I, and many others, have reported of the game not booting up and requiring to go to the game files and disable the panorama backgrounds of the menu to be able to play is only present in the standard system installs of Steam (deb, rpm, etc.), because it makes use of the distros default libraries to run, which seems to not be compatible with the game on most modern distributions. The Flatpak runtime comes with the needed libraries bundled in, making it so that it runs out of the box with absolutely no issues (or at least none that I could find).
Now that online play has been re-enabled for PC, the game functions %100 on Linux.
Even managed to mod the game with things like HD textures and the lighting overhaul. Flawless performance for a flawless game.
Random online matches would suffer from severe slowdown from beginning to end
This issue seems to only happen during private online matches. Both online in the plaza and tower as well as singleplayer show no issues. I, however, mostly like to play the game with friends in private rooms, so I will temporarily be switching this game to WIndows until a fix is found, it completely ruins the experience for everyone in the match.
Requires enabling Proton despite being a native game for it to run well for some odd reason.
Regular GMod shenanigans, nothing that wouldn't happen on Windows as well.
Without Proton the main menu simply won't load, leaving you without the ability to enter a world or do anything at all. I've read comments that said you needed to replace the main menu with a custom one, but for me all I had to do was enable Proton for the default menu to just come back from the dead. Everything else runs as you'd expect GMod to run, as in constant LUA errors and dreadfully long load times when enabling a lot of mods at once, so just like on any other platform.

The entire system will lock up in the middle of hunts, forcing to reboot the entire system and losing all progress made in that particular session. It seems to happen more frequently during online matches. It effectively stops any kind of progress from being made in the game.
The online performance itself is overall on par with Windows, Its just that the previously mentioned crashes make it almost unplayable.
Even though its a singular issue and the rest of the game is basically flawless on Linux, Its an issue big enough to ruin the entire experience.
Default Proton stable build struggles running the menus for some reason, with gameplay itself being just fine. This issue seems to not happen anymore with the recent experimental updates, so switching to it is all you need to get a stable experience.
