The game crashed on startup. I was able to fix it by deleting the old compatdata/722730
directory.
The game did not launch for me when I was using native runtime. With Steam runtime (the default) the game works perfectly with all graphics set to ultra.
Issues with mouse look (windowed mode helps a bit).
Some keyboard keys do not work with the default bindings. Especially the RAlt modifier doesn't work. Can be fixed by rebinding a lot of keys.
The performance seems to be quite good.
I didn't test the multiplayer.
There weren't any crashes. I avoided pressing F10 as others reported.
The correct protontricks command is protontricks 223750 vcrun2017 corefonts xact d3dcompiler_43
. Some of the other reports had it slightly wrong.

I needed PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=10
to fix audio crackling and being too fast. With the fix it's perfect.
Mouse look doesn't work very well, but I use headtracking instead anyway. Some keys like right alt are not working. Pressing F10 causes the game to crash. Because of these you need to do some key rebinding.
I mostly play in F/A-18C Hornet and have tried many features quite extensively in both single and multi player modes. I think the performance is comparable to running the game natively, but the game can be demanding in some scenarios, especially in multiplayer servers. My GTX 1060 is barely enough for 4K gaming with reduced graphical settings.
In addition to the Steam version, the standalone version of the game also works in Wine, but you need to install
dxvk
with winetricks for that. You might also need to test different windows version with winecfg if the game doesn't launch or you have issues with the updater.I am able to use SRS with some hacking, see https://github.com/ciribob/DCS-SimpleRadioStandalone/issues/409. It's best to have a new wine prefix for SRS instead of sharing one with DCS.
Headtracking works perfectly with linuxtrack.
You can also use mods like Tacview and DCS-BIOS.
With Vulkan and max graphics, the game runs at 110-140 FPS.
Vsync must be disabled, otherwise there is a significant delay.
DX11 mode works without modifications. DX12 mode doesn't start.
Performance is good with 1440p and max graphical settings on my system. 4K resolution would require a better GPU.

Menus work, but the game always crashes when starting a mission
Reports say that installing vcrun2015 might fix that, so I tried protontricks 307960 vcrun2015
. It fails saying that another version is already installed. Seems like Steam had installed vcrun2017. I can remove that with wine uninstaller
and then protontricks installs vcrun2015 seemingly successfully. However, the game still crashes when starting missions.
I am unable to play the game.
Performance can be low at times or with some graphical settings. I guess my GPU just isn't that good with 4K resolution.
Does not launch
I can see Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) splash screen, but the actual game does not launch at all.
Ubisoft launcher cannot connect
I cannot connect with Ubisoft Connect. It always gives
"Connection Lost. A Ubisoft service is currently unavailable. Please try again later."
I had the "Connection Lost. A Ubisoft service is currently unavailable." issue when trying to play out-of-the-box, but it can be fixed by setting MTU to 1452 or better yet, with:
sysctl net.ipv4.tcp_mtu_probing=1
