The game will drop framerates quickly while lockpicking and a pin is binding if you have a controller connected to your computer, disconnecting it is a solution, though a short term one.
Better native compared to via Proton.
There are so few people playing online that I cannot confirm this reliably, but you seem to be unable to connect to multiplayer games via the Linux version.
Better stability native than via Proton which was prone to split second graphical glitches and random, often unexplainable, crashes that could happen at any time causing any progress to be lost during a run. This was also the case when I was playing the same game on Fedora, though on a laptop (not that this game is particularly demanding to begin with).
Didn't work out of the box due to an inability to initialize D3D in Windows ver. via Proton, will require tinkering.
Application has crashed: C++ exception Could not initialize Direct3D.
As before, will not work out of the box without tinkering, but I eventually found something.

Anyone using Arch Linux and its derivatives may find some use in this guide to install any drivers that may be missing: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1787799592
Linux version remains unsupported AFAIK, use Windows via Proton.
Worked out of the box, borked audio due to the Houston Breakout update.
Audio randomly cuts out, considering I had this issue while also on Windows this seems more like an issue with the Houston Breakout update.
Proton 9 and Experimental doesn't seem to play well at all with Payday 3, I found using Proton 8.0-5 solved the launch issues as of part 2 of the anniversary update.
An audio bug introduced with the addition of the trip laser has been fixed however updates still break some other things E.G. guards will not investigate a lure in one of the stores in the Diamond District heist.
-fileopenlog -dx11
Shadows frequently glitch out at a very frequent pace enough to give me headaches if looked at long enough, this was solved with the -dx11 tag in launch options.
Worked flawlessly for me.
High framerate, no stuttering or any other issues. Perhaps not a surprise given how lightweight this game is.
Worked out of the box with no tinkering for me.
Performed very well during the Trainwreck heist on very hard difficulty, never dipped below 144 FPS which I had it capped at. Might have the same issues specifically to do with the game rather than playing it on Linux instead of Windows.
Installed Proton 9.0-2
Out of the box the volume is high and effects like ricochets, glass breaking and gunshots sounds disproportionately louder to the rest of the audio and may start clipping. Lowering SFX volume is STRONGLY advised.
Linux version may not stretch to the ends of your screen, downloading the Windows version and running it with Proton yields better results.
Any progress you may have made in the shooting range and in the campaign in Windows can be lost.
--lua-heap-mb-size 2048
Switching between resolutions caused the game to bug out and the entire system seemed unresponsive, prompting a hard reset.
The game doesn't achieve close to tolerable framerates without heavy DLSS (we're talking ultra performance) or equivalent and framegen.
