Everyone playing this in 2025 do this! Go to the game in your steam deck library - settings - properties - betas - change it openbeta_win64- 2023, I know it says windows only but it runs fine on the steam deck from my testing.
Now go into the game go settings - controls - make sure to enable gamepad [on] then go back to settings - game - mechanics, framerate I set 120, aspect ratio 16:9, custom size - width 448, height 280.
Enjoy!

Moved saves from Windows successfully. Weird graphical artifact with the health bar, but that was the only issue. Looped twice on my first run.

Activate game pad mode and make it full screen in options ( using touch screen )
just change it in the options ( usign the touch screen )

Native build's a bit buggy, locked to 30fps/4:3. 'openbeta_win64' beta branch is recommended for uncapped framerate & custom aspect ratio.
Switch to "openbeta_win64" beta branch
Native build is stuck on an old version which only supports 30fps & 4:3, latest beta supports uncapped framerate and custom aspect ratios (though has a <=60fps cap for daily & weekly challenges.)
If your desired framerate & aspect ratio aren't automatically set you can navigate to Settings -> Game -> Mechanics and change the framerate/aspect ratio there.
Immediately closes out after opening. run.sh errors about libcrypto. Just use Proton.
Works fine
Works natively with no tinkering.
Though I have had no issues with the native version, I quickly switched over to Proton to be able to play with mods (Nuclear Throne Ultra mod) and have had a flawless experience.
I only found out about this from the game's forum, but you absolutely need to go to the game's properties within Steam and enable the beta version from 2021. Then you will be able to find a 60fps option in the game's settings menus. This makes a WORLD of difference. It's a crime this game was 30fps originally.
Plays mostly fine except for some audio issues
Audio seems to be delayed
use touchscreen to enable gamepad in settings. after you do that it's a type of game that's perfectly suited to deck
Gamepad must be enabled in Options (navigable by touchscreen). After enabling gamepad, you're good to go.
Had no trouble running Nuclear Throne. Works great on Deck.
Runs perfectly fine
Run it with Proton
The Linux version didn't run for me, but the Proton version works great.
Runs perfectly and with NTT.

The game just crashes, that's all the problem, the game can be played good, but the experience has short duration before it crashes.
My old game progress isn't in the game
The game crashes with proton, and the native game doesn't run even
The game crashes after some minutes of gameplay
The Native version does not work on 64 bit systems, in this case Proton is the way.
Installed and launched I was in Windows. This is currently running better with Proton 6.3-5 compared to Native.
Runs great via proton, since native is broken at the moment

NTT works as well, just install it through wine and swap the nuclearthrone.exe and the NuclearThroneTogether.exe
runs flawless, input latency felt higher than native but can't verify that.
Linux native client would crash after a couple minutes until I added the following to launch options: radeonsi_sync_compile=true %command%
Native version of this game is broken on recent distros due to missing/old package dependencies. To run the game you must force Proton.
Since the native Linux version is borked, Proton is the way to go, and it works like a charm! Highly recommended.
Runs perfectly without any tricks
Played some games on fish and one weekly-game on steroids and everything runs perfectly

Not sure this is relevant, but I disable steam overlay for this game too. If you encounter crash in other games, first try using PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1, it works for me 2 titles included this one now.
Proton version 5.x didn't work for me, have to revert back to 4.11-13 (there is no option to select such exact version from protondb report).

Disabled the steam overlay. Before doing this I had frequent crashes every 2~ minutes.
I had one random crash throughout my 3 hours playing.
Native version is completely borked. Did not test co-op in the Nuclear Throne Together mod.

Unplayable with the crashing
Heavy amounts of crashes, can't even play longer than a couple of minutes.
Attempted to run in previous versions of Proton and with -autoconfig added, they didn't make any difference. Native version is completely borked as well.
Game worked after using the "-autoconfig" steam launch option and also by forcing the latest proton build.

Native client doesn't work for me (Arch Linux), forcing proton works.

Everything runs very well, the native version appears to be broken. At least it was for me on both kubuntu 18.04 and now Manjaro
