I am using the atelier-sync-fix to improve the performance of the game. https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix
Without disabling Esync and Fsync the game freezed frequently. Now with it disabled it seems to be completly solved.

I am using the atelier-sync-fix to increase the framerate. https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix
Without disabling Fsync and Esync I had numerous freezes while fast traveling an moving between areas. After adding the additional commandline arguments I did not experience any problems besides a random crash when entering the atelier, but that seemed unrelated and did not happen again.
Without using a custom proton version for ingame videos and the commandline options to disable Fsync and Esync it was not a good experience. However after these tweaks it seems flawless.

I think Proton 9.0-3 fixed the loading screen freeze.

Playable with Atelier Fix + Proton 7, though you should save often as crashes may occur during fast travel.

Using Atelier Fix + Proton 7 reduces crashes considerably (though not 100%)
Atelier fix + Proton 7 is mandatory, otherwise the game is unplayable due to very frequent crashing. Fast traveling to the Atelier first before going anywhere else helps reduce crashing as well.

Used Aterlier Syncfix
Freezes in some loading screens
Likes to reset graphics settinfgs after freezing. Freezes on some loading screens, makes progression annoying. Even with atelier syncfix

Even if you do all the tricks people are using. If you are unlucky, then you have high chance to get freeze on loading screen.
Framerate below 30 fps
Crash if you set it on highest quality
Freeze on loading screen
Just don't hope for smooth playing.

With default proton intro and the plot summary movie wouldn't play, the game would just return back to menu. Works well on experimental.
When limiting FPS below 60 the game physics gets broken. There aren't that many items with physics to them, but dress of one of the alchemists is shaking instead of slowly waving, in some cutscenes clothing on Sophie's arm gets crazy. Unfortunatelly there's nothing that can be done, as SD won't hold 60 outside of smaller rooms.
The game configuration gets reset with no aparent reason. After each crash it would reset to max settings and the FPS would drop (due to shadow quality setting being back at high). Sometimes the autosave would get me back into a cutscene so I had to watch it in 25FPS.
Without the fix mentioned by other reports the game barely holds 20FPS in cities on lowest settings. With the fix you get stable 40 with highest settings, except for shadow quality.
The game crashes pretty often - stops loading during scene change. The game autosaves often, but the loading times are pretty long for bigger locations, so restarting the game takes a lot of time.
Even with fix at https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix the game is barely worth playing on steam deck. It is borderline playable, as long as you have patience to crashes and visual glitches. Without the tinkering the game is unbearable. Missing videos, low framerate, and possibly also crashes.

40hz, lowered shadow quality
Mapping keyboard keys to the grip buttons to let me quit the game didn't work. The game seems to ignore keyboard inputs, so I quit using SteamOS.
No issues when using the d3d11 fix.
Do not use Steam frame rate limiter! Very frequent crashes when loading with this enabled (also seems to cause long load times). So far no crashes for 1h+ without the limiter.

Use atfix: https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix/ Just drop next to the game's exe Thanks to the person who brought this up and the person who made it. I hope this can be integrated into Proton so it runs well out of the box. For some reason, this works without needing to add it to WINEDLLOVERRIDES as an environment variable. Even with this fix, some actions like jumping cause GPU utilization to drop temporarily along with the framerate.
Extremely low framerate without atfix.
The default setting for shadows is high, but it seems that this only affects shadow resolution. Setting this to standard/low does 40fps easily with all other settings at their maximum values, and has very little visual quality loss.
The game becomes unresponsive on loading screens sometimes, no screen update. There is no apparent logical cause, you can load and pick up where you left off and it'll work. The game auto-saves very often so it's livable but still quite inconvenient. This is with atfix, did go far enough to test without using it.
Framerate is set to 30 FPS.
Loading new maps might hang (about 20% of the time). The loading screen icon will appear but the progress indicator ("...") would not be displayed.

Like other Atelier series, Opening/Ending videos, as well as some tutorials do not show.
couldn't play without crashing on older proton versions but with proton 7 it's fine now
slight stutter but it goes away once i was in an area for a few seconds
works better now that proton 7 is out but some things like "the story so far" didn't play and hard cut right back to menu I got a decent way in on windows so idk about the old pain points i had
Set refresh rate to 30, the game can't run stable 40.
Very poor performance out of the box (19fps on the main menu, drops lower in game) by default. As always https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix/ helps a ton, same deal as Ryza, Ryza 2 etc. and potentially other KT games.
With fix and a mix of medium/high settings 30fps stable is possible.
Maybe 40 with lower graphics settings but I think this for this type of game I'd rather have the slightly better graphics.
It still has some inexplicable drops below 30 when pressing jump while in town but combat is smooth.
Loading new area can get stuck sometimes, not sure if caused by the fix or just the game itself.
With the fix applied and lowering Shadow Quality to "Standard", I think the experience is enjoyable.
The game suffers from poor gpu utilization, and applying this fix will improve the frame rate and gpu utilization (also applies to other recent Gust games like Blue Reflection: Second Light). https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix/
The game defaults the Overall Quality to the "High" preset, lowering Shadow Quality from "High" to "Standard" will give a significant frame rate increase from 28 to 44. (This was with the fix applied).
Occasionally crashes when loading areas.
Crashes can drasticly ruin the experience|Auto-saving is good and I have not lost any progress but its frustrating|Poor performance on Deck
Set resolution to lowest, FSR to max, and all settings to lowest. Max graphics on this game only runs about 20ish FPS in large areas.
Without using Proton-GE, audio in movie cutscenes, such as the one that plays when you boot the game, does not play.
Using FSR all text and game assets appear fine, but in the slideshow tutorial segments and in the crafting conclusion screen, the images that appear are incredibly pixelated. Probably an FSR thing?
Max graphics on this game do not run well on Steam Deck, and the game boots like this out of the box. Not sure why since it's not that graphically intensive of a title.
Game crashes occasionally when loading a new area. Not sure what causes it, sometimes I get a crash on first load, sometimes I get 15 minutes, sometimes I get 30-60 minutes.
Works fine with gamescope, usually broken in various ways without.
With Steam Input enabled, controller inpuit does not work at all, with Steam Input disabled, the button mapping is incorrect.
Game sometimes hangs.
Videos do not play. On Proton 7.0 or Experimental, any video will instantly cause a crash to desktop.
A couple issues with video playback and some infrequent crashes, but the game is generally playable.
The "Story so far" option on the main menu does not play the intended video, and will just return you to the main menu. Additionally, tutorial videos for "major gathering" minigames do not play when they are encountered -- the game will display a white rectangle in their stead and begin chugging until the tutorial has been finished or skipped.
On occasion, the game can fail to assume true fullscreen (instead displaying small borders around a game window). I've been able to remedy this by flipping through the display modes in the in-game options.
Occasional crashes have been experienced over ~30 hours of gameplay (somewhere around 5 times in total so far). Generally they have been either during loads or after battles following level ups. Fortunately, the game has auto saves that make these less impactful.
Works good out of box
The "Story So Far" from the main menu does not play, just drops you back to the menu. I consider this minor. I have encountered no other issues in the 2.5 hours I've played.

过场时经常性的卡死
gamemoderun %command%
切换了几个不同的proton版本(包括GE)都有过场卡死的情况。重启游戏可以继续游玩,但是这种情况频繁的发生。我不知道这是否是个例。
Game crash from time to time, but with auto-save, only a few case are a bother.
Occasionally the game stop on a white screen, often before a cinematic. Forced me once to restart a boss. Nothing that can't be fixed with a restart thought.
"Story so far" in the menu don't work at all, but don't make the game crash either.
The game was not working day one for me, worked day two, don't know if it's because of a Proton update or a day one patch.
Rare stutters, seemingly when loading.
Haven't been able to play much yet but so far everything good! Will update if I run into any trouble.
movies don't work, but that's it
freezes for a second very occasionally while walking around the world
"Story so far" won't play. Simply returns to menu. There is likely another movie scene that was skipped when starting the game as well. Otherwise, it is perfectly playable OOB.
Blank screen after first cutscene
I was able to launch the game. But when I click on "Story So Far" in the main menu I get a blank screen. Same thing happens after the first cutscene of a new game.
