Loading into new zones can introduce heavy crashing. I could migitate this however by disabling Esync and Fsync, but this does impact the performance of the game. Once these launch options were added I did not experience a single one through the entire playthrough. I don't know if this issue would still exist on my new hardware, but with my i7 6700k and GTX 980 ti I experienced frequent crashing.
Like in all titles of the trilogy you can improve the performance with the atelier fix. Please note that at the time of writing I already use different hardware and a patch from Gust was realeased to improve playibility on the steam deck, so the launch options above may not be necessary.

I had numerous crashes on my old hardware, but now with my new cpu and graphics card (I completly switched to amd from an i 6700k and GTX 980 ti) it seems to work fine. I had one maybe 2 crashes through the entire playthrough and they were not even necessarily proton related. I tested this game before the patch from Gust to improve the playabiliy on the steam deck. After the patch It continued to work fine.

I can't think of a single crash. You can improve the performance of the game like in every game of this trilogy with the atelier fix. I played through the entire game with the fix installed.

I am using the atelier-sync-fix to increase the framerate. https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix
Without disabling Fsync and Esync I had numerous freezes while fast traveling an moving between areas. After adding the additional commandline arguments I did not experience any problems besides a random crash when entering the atelier, but that seemed unrelated and did not happen again.
Without using a custom proton version for ingame videos and the commandline options to disable Fsync and Esync it was not a good experience. However after these tweaks it seems flawless.

Without disabling Esync and Fsync the game freezed frequently. Now with it disabled it seems to be completly solved.
Did not encounter any problems so far. Framerate is stable without any adjustments.
The game does start, but it crashes every time I try to load a save file with the custom version from Glorious Eggroll.
It does not crash at a certain position of the loading bar, it is pretty random. I also tried mf-install, but it had no impact as expected. I did not try a default version of proton since I read in other comments that you can expect 1-3 frames in the game. Starting the game multiple times did not help aswell. I tried 10 times total. I guess this has something to do with Denuvo, but I am not sure.
The performance seems comparable if not better than windows. I would recommend using the custom version of proton from Glorious Eggroll.

alt-tabbing out of the game causes the game to freeze occasionally.
alt-tabbing out of the game might cause the game to crash. Watching weapon tutorial videos caused a crash one time. This could be a general game issue and not related at all.
the game is crashing way to often. I tried multiple graphics settings and different proton-versions from steam and glorious eggroll
grass textures do not load
crashes every 15 to 30 minutes at random spots
