Severe Lag Leading To Crash
Perhaps if the graphics settings were more adjustable I'd have more luck, but nothing I did (shut off overlay, try different tinkering commands, etc) would help boost the frame rate. I was able to run the main menu and start the game, but the actual gameplay was so laggy it may as well have not been happening. I managed to push through as far as to where it asks you to place the first item in your dog's house, where I clicked on the building and it promptly froze.
Works perfectly out of the box

Runs great OOTB but it's somewhat demanding for such a simple game. On lower than 8w, game chugs.
Text is very tiny and in some places there it's pink text on blue background it's just unreadable.
Even though I use GE, it runs with little to no tweaking required.
If you limit the framerate and play with a KBD/M you'll find it working awesome out of the box, but defaults for SD are quite poor atm!
The default control scheme is pretty weird. Currently not any official/community layout that resolves this. Right now should be used with KBD/Mouse unless you want to do the work of sorting the layout!
Quite heavy dips from 60 to <30 when panning the camera, especially when zoomed in. I don't think this is a proton issue, rather that the game uses some heavy visual effects that you can't disable easily.

If you have too many dogs on screen the game drops a ton of frames and plays at around 10-20 fps. It also drops frames and stutters in the breeding simulation.
If the dev ever adds more customisability to changing graphical settings (now you can just choose resolution and that's it) and/or better optimisation, the game would play quite well on the deck OOTB.
