Linux EAC not supported by Amazon :(
You have to install "Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime" and THEN install New World. I could play online, but after minutes the game crashes
bash -c 'exec "${@/NewWorldLauncher.exe/bin64\/NewWorld.exe}"' -- %command%
VSYNC not working as expected
Game crashes after minutes.
I dont know why its crashing, but ill try to solve it. Try different Proton versions....
Bought a new GPU for this game, but the FPS stayed the same. Micro Stuttering and Crashes after Random Minutes/Hours.
Its frustrating to play an OPR and then sometimes the game crashes if its nearly over and you get no rewards.
Unfortunately I have to say that proton is not ready for this game. Tried every versions, including GE and switching the GPU Drivers. I even installed the original amdgpu driver (not released for Ubuntu 22 yet -> I had to change the packages). None of the steps solved the problems. I even bought a new GPU (RX 6750 XT) and more RAM (16 -> 32GB). Nothing...

I think this is my 3nd or 4th review for this game :D But I finally got it to work. Steps that I did:
- Overall performance:
- installed 32 Gig of RAM (Vulkan games use more RAM)
- installed Proton GE
- installed "gamemode"
- installed latest graphics driver
- installed dxvk-async
- set the launch options in Steam
- Fixed the random crashes:
- I had to change from Ubuntu 22 to Arch Linux. I think the problem was either the kernel or the AMD Drivers
- Fixed the micro stuttering:
- Download "CoreCtrl" and set your GPU Settings to "High", apply and save them. This also works for many other games aswell!
The performance is now like in Windows 10 or maybe even better.
I hope this helps other people too, cause it drove me crazy :D
This game is so old but still not fixed. Congrats to the devs.
Game didnt start after a few updates. But then I realized there were thousands of explorer.exe processes running. After some more issues I purged the whole Steam on the OS, selected the compatibility for an older Proton BEFORE I click on install and everything runs super smooth now!
Installed via this guide https://squadfm.org/#installation-linux-only
Start only with Proton 6.3.8. Runs with 7.0.1 but you have to set write permissions to the Temp dir and after vcredist initialisation you have to quickly set it back to read-only. But that is not the case for 6.3.8. It runs perfectly.
Changed the EAC File like in the tutorial, even installed the new Proton EAC Runtime, but everytime I start the game it says "Steam is Currently Offline" and I cant play online.
Onine play not possible
Cant play online
You need to download Steam from the official steampowered store (!! NOT via apt get !!) and then install the EAC file from the valve github.

Even with the new Proton 8 the mouse is still visible, when rotating the camera. Switching back to older Version 6.3-8 resolves this issue. Never had any issues with this game on Linux.

Cursor is visible when moving camera
You can turn off the cursor by switching to proton 6. But the FPS decreases by ~30 (at least for my system). Switching to Proton 9 and Experimental gave me the cursor, but increased the FPS. But now I had weird camera movement lags. And because of that I installed the latest Proton-GE Version via "yay -S proton-ge-custom-bin" and at least the camera lags were gone.
Im playing at 144hz on a 2k display with DX11 enabled and settings to "Ultra", but disabled "Character portraits" to increase the fps by 10-20. Now I have about 70fps looking at Angmar from Aughaire.
DXVK_ASYNC=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR_STRENGTH=3 PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 gamemoderun %command%
UPDATE: Cursor is gone, FPS is stable. Steps to reproduce:
- Use Xorg instead of Wayland
- add PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 to Launch Options
- Install latest Proton-GE Version
- Install CoreCTRL and set GPU to manual -> High
- add these lines to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-glamor.conf and restart Section "Device" Identifier "AMD Graphics" Driver "amdgpu" Option "AccelMethod" "glamor" EndSection
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=140 PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 %command%
Upscaled resolution for a better UI on 2k or 4k
fixed mouse problems for Proton Versions > 6.3-8
- Install latest Proton-GE version and activate it for LOTRO
- add start options
- maybe optional:
- open wincfg
- set emulated screen to your screen size
- install kespenguen's lotro hide tool: wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/kespenguen/lotro_hide/refs/heads/main/lotro_hide.c && gcc -lX11 -lXi -lXfixes lotro_hide.c -o lotro_hide
- start this tool in a terminal session ./lotro_hide
- Start LOTRO
- Change the fullscreen resolution to 1920x1080 if your on 2or4k (mine is 3440x1440, so i changed it to 2560x1080)
- Switch to fullscreen
The Screen should now be cristal clear, while having a bigger UI. The mouse shouldnt be visible
Not starting
Tried nearly all Proton versions. Game wont even start -.-
