Native, runs perfectly
Was able to play through the whole game whilst exploring most of the map and haven't encountered any issues.
Had a very slight mouse input delay, but it went away after enabling FSync in XIVLauncher options
No issues whatsoever as long as XIVLauncher is kept up to date.
Currently playing with Dawntrail expansion.
Getting almost the same performance as on Windows, with the sole exception being places where there's a lot of players - I'm getting a bit less FPS on Linux in such cases (though it's nothing drastic).
Works like a charm, no tinkering required
Managed to play through all levels available at Early Access launch and haven't had any troubles.
Works great
There's an occasional stutter here and there - not sure if this is Linux specific or not. It's very minor and not game breaking at all.
Works out of the box
Installed through Steam and was able to play instantly. No issues whatsoever.
Works fine, but level loading can be a bit annoying
During longer sessions the game tends to freeze for up to a few seconds after loading a new zone.
Works great, no issues
Played through the whole game without encountering any issues whatsoever.
Runs without issues
Completed the game without any issues whatsoever. Performance was great as well!
The game tends to crash very often, but only in some locations (in my case it's the forest and wylk caverns later on).
I was able to play fine for hours in other locations, without any crashes there.
The crashes are pretty random and can happen anywhere witihn 5 minut to few hours of playing, even if nothing is happening on the screen.
I've seen Windows users suffering from crashes as well, so it's hard to say if any are Linux specific or not. I've tried the default Proton version, Hotfix and Experimental (bleeding-edge) ones and experienced the same stability issues across all of them.
Honestly this makes for a pretty paranoid experience. You never know when the game will crash and make you lose progress, so I cannot really recommend playing this right now (in spite of sinking in over 20 hours myself).
Works great - encountered issues most probably not Linux specific
There is this really weird issue where the game will swap button mappings seemingly at random (for example, it swapped LB with LT for me).
Disabling Steam Input for the game fixes this completely.
Two save areas had a noticeable drop in FPS, but this was during 4h+ sessions and solved itself after game restart.
Native version runs great
Played the game to completion - the only issue I've noticed was some small LOD pop-in during post credits scene.
Note that the game appears to be largely hardcoded to run in 60 FPS, which is a bit unfortunate. I would love to play this in 144Hz, but no dice :(.
Installed D3D11 renderer mod
Lots of stutter in NPC dense areas - fixed by limiting FPS to ~60
Had like 5 or 6 crashes in 80h playtime, most likely due to engine instability (the mod is massive in scope when compared to the original title)
Had no linux-specific issues throughout whole playthrough, which took around 80h.
If you like G1 and G2 then I highly recommend this mod. It plays like a standalone Gothic 2 expansion/game. Honestly I find it insane that it is available for free, considering how well it is made.
Works great
Played more than 8 hours at the time of posting and didn't have any problems.
