Working with proton version 4.2-9, more recent versions will crash on launch (currently the last proton version is 5.0-7) . Even the launcher works with this version of proton. Vulkan and DirectX mode are both working.
Perfect on PC
On the Seam Deck I had to lower the graphics to reduce stuttering. Sometimes the game freezes but it happens rarely, the worse was when I had to complete a quest with the pirates on the PC.
I only tried Proton Hotfix because of the previous reports here and since it is a frequently updated multiplayer game with EasyAntiCheat. I have not tested other proton versions.
I had difficulty linking the frontier account with steam, I tried various proton versions and at the end it worked with GE-Proton8-21. The next day it failed to launch and I switched back to the default version of Proton (currently Proton 8.0-4) and since then it works reliably.
You can try this free edition with proton and if you like it you can buy the paid native edition without the annoying in-app purchases.
The game failed to launch on a monitor with 2560x1040 resolution, it stopped at the loading screen.
When launched on a monitor with 1920x1080 resolution the game worked without problems.
After testing various proton versions, the game started displaying an error about not being able to save the user profile with the game progress. To fix I had to remove the proton prefix folder at "steamapps/compatdata/11020".
