The game doesn't have any default compatablity tool set, so you have to set one yourself to install.
Ran winecfg through protontricks to fix display DPI
At a higher DPI (168 DPI) the upgrades menu seemed to disapear, switching to a lower one fixed it (130 DPI).
I was having some trouble getting new mods to load from the workshop but that could have been a platform indepedent thing going on.

Works perfectly out of the box.
When changeing resolution to one that is not the native to my laptop's panel it doesn't scale instead it just streches the edges of the screen.

It doesn't seem to properly fullscreen so that it covers the taskbar, using KDE's context menu to force fullscreen fixes this, I've encountered this issue with java based games before like Minecraft.
Fullscreen issues like this are some what common with java games.

In some areas the lighting is very bright almost blinding, this can be fixed by disabling "Lighting 2.0" in the options; in space some star ships appear more reflective than usual.
One time I exited the game but it didn't properly exit and still seemed to have trapped my mouse cursor in what was it's bounds, force closing Steam fixed this.
On one occasion I alt-tabbed well it was loading and got my mouse cursor in the game miss aligned but once moving to a corner of the screen and alt-tabbing again it fix it.
There are some odd lighting problems at times but it is playable.
Works perfectly you just need to switch to proton exp.
