No issues performance wise
The only thing that differed for this from playing on Windows was the fact that the game started in Chinese (despite my Windows version being left off on English). Other than that it runs very well.
The Age of Wonders games just have issues
Ran very poorly
I've played a bit of Age of Wonders 3 and it has always had issues, 4 is no different. I've tried changing proton versions and a few fixes but the frame rate for 4 was just abysmal.
Somewhat stable 60 fps @ 1080p at just the beginning of a game, but anything higher and I'd just be playing at 30. If I were to continue to play I'd have no doubt that I'd be getting 20 or less down the line. Refunded sadly.
Great game, performance issues
Certain areas will chug, down to 30 or below frames. I don't know if it's a CPU issue (there is a bottleneck) or if just poor optimization, but I have no problems otherwise running at 70+ frames on average.
It's fixed now, but for some reason (after plugging in a controller) I wasn't able to use anything in my inventory (no buttons worked, mouse, controller, or using keyboard).
The game for the most part runs pretty well, though there are noticeable performance issues. I've only run into the occasional bug so that's not much of an issue, and I don't know if it's a CPU issue (or that and an optimization issue) so take this with a grain of salt.
Hub has performance issues, but other than that it runs just fine
Problems in the hub world, everywhere else it's more or less fine
Most of the game runs fine, but the main hub world runs pretty poorly (somewhere around ~30 frames, so not unplayably bad but less than desired). Thankfully most of your time will be spent in your runs and everything runs pretty smoothly there.
Zero issues, played nicely out of the box
Didn't see or notice any real issues, that being said I only noticed 3 resolutions (with 1600x900 being the largest) but honestly not really an issue.
Worked without a hiccup
The game runs just fine, but you won't really be playing it unless you and a friend have a copy since the game is effectively dead.
Not a bad experience, it runs just fine for the most part, but like others have said after a few matches it gets bad
After a few matches it'll start to stutter and then eventually, stop entirely
Sometimes crashing to desktop on entering a match, sometimes it's once, sometimes never, and sometimes any time you get into one
I wouldn't see anyone really having any issues with this game
Out of the box worked
Didn't really have an issues playing it, even though there's nothing to say it works on Linux.
Worked straight out of the box, was worried since the developers said Linux wasn't a priority for them (only Windows) but I've had no issues with it yet.
Works flawlessly
Enable vsync if you want to play at more than 60fps, runs smoothly right out of the box.
Crashing and performance issues, mostly crashing
Having played it on Windows and Linux, I actually had a better time on Linux than I did Windows (may have to do a fresh Windows install and/or other troubleshooting, might vary for you).
It crashes much less than the Windows variant for me and the performance is much more consistant (changing cells in Windows results in a big fps drop) but with less overall highs. I have noticed performance issues but nothing too terrible.
No issues with playing
Didn't see any performance issues or any other issues with running the game
Works right out of the box
Haven't had any issues with Yog Sothoth's Yard or Trainee Death Simulator
Works just fine out of the box
Very late game you might notice some frame drops (due to having so many guests) but other than that the game works pretty good
Crashes after the first cutscene (Steam exclusive)
No cutscenes, game doesn't play on Steam but will play off of it
There may be a way to go about getting it to work on Steam, but for me, at least for now, I have to play through the game files through the games install folder.
If you're like me and the game launches perfectly fine, you can configure the game, but you can't get past the initial cutscenes without crashing, you might just want to go into the game files folder and launch it that way (or through Lutris/Wine/Bottles). The game plays perfectly fine, great even, with kb+m or a gamepad, just doesn't play nicely with Steam.
The game won't recognize as being played through Steam this way, meaning if achievements are a big thing for you, you can resort to SAM or finding a workaround/fix. The game saves will not be the same (Steam - locally run) so I haven't tried copying over a save file from past the initial start, but it might work that way.
