Played the game, start to finish, and collected all of the achievements. I did not encounter any issues, and the game played flawlessly using the native runtime. I had the graphics at maximum and the fps set to 30, making my Deck quiet.
As expected, this game worked flawlessly on Steam Deck natively. It was cool seeing all the buttons light up as I pressed them on my Deck.
Played through this quick little game from start to finish on Steam Deck. There were no issues and everything ran smoothly.
I found that the touchpad controls were most comfortable during repairs, and touch screen during the story parts.
I played this game twice through on Steam Deck, and did not encounter any issues. The performance was perfect, the visuals looked great, and the audio was beautiful. I highly recommend playing Beacon Pines on Steam Deck.
With native, there was no audio. I forced the use of Proton under the "Compatibility" settings, and the audio started working without issue.
I played through the entire game and the Gubbins on Ice DLC with no issues. The game stayed at a locked 30fps and there were no stability issues. I used the default controls, which played very nice.
As was the case with the first game, with native, there was no audio. I forced the use of Proton under the "Compatibility" settings, and the audio started working without issue.
I played through the entire game from start to finish, and encounted no issues. The game stayed at 60fps, with a few short dips here and there. I used the default controls, which were very intuitive. Great experience!
Touchpad would occasionally fling in a direction.
I played through the entire game without issue. I used the default controls, which were perfect.
I started with trying to get 60fps, but the game couldn't maintain that. I locked it to 30fps, and it was fine, and my Deck didn't sound like a jet engine. I used the default "High" graphics settings.
Was able to play start to finish on Steam Deck without any issues. I set the FPS to 40, and the game played beautifully.
I played through the entire game start to finish, and didn't have any issues. Every aspect of the game played perfectly and I was able to get about 4h of the game on a single charge. Performance, audio, controls, and visuals were perfect!
Played the game start to finish, getting all the combos. It plays absolutely flawlessly on Deck, and I had 0 issues with controls, audio, or performance. Game stays at 60fps the whole time.
With Proton 7.0-4, the entire screen has white noise that distorts the image. Additionally, the game's lighting is barely there, and the colors are mostly gray.
With forced Proton Experimental, the game worked for me for level 1, but after that there was no lighting whatsoever and all colors were gray.
With any version of Proton, there was a streak from the bottom left to the top right that kind of looks like an ocular migraine. (Looks like the screen is sliced open.)
The severe graphics degredations make Lucius unplayable on SteamDeck. The character can be controlled, but actually seeing the character is inconsistent due to the lack of scene lighting. It's the equivilent of playing the game nearly blind.
I will create another report when the game is playable on Steam Deck.
No issues with controls, but it did not show Steam Deck icons despite being verified. My experience was Xbox icons.
Played through the game, 100%, on Steam Deck and it went smoothly. Performance stayed at 60fps and there weren't any other issues.
Aiming at a specific targets when being swarmed by a big group is awkward with handheld controls, versus keyboard+mouse, but this isn't caused by running on Steam Deck or Linux.
I played through the entire game on SteamDeck and it worked without issue. I left all the settings as default; just install and play. At one point I modified my controller layout to enable the d-pad, but I ended up not using it in the end.
When waking the Steam Deck from sleep, the audio was crackling. Voice dialog was sped up as well.
I played through from start to finish, reaching rank 102 and thus 100%'ing the game. I had 0 issues, and the default controls felt nice. The game wasn't able to maintain 60fps on the default high graphics settings. I capped the fps at 30 and it was a good experience.
Putting my Deck to sleep and waking it back up caused some audio issues. The game played fine still, but the audio crackled and the VO was sped up. Simply restarting the game fixed it. This ONLY occurred when waking my device.
Initial setup is easy, just a little window to pick resolution. I picked 1280x800. The game played flawlessly with 0 issues.
Many. See below, "Ubisoft Connect Woes".
Overall (TL;DR)
- Ubisoft is tedious, but manageable. Performance is great. It's WAY better than Switch and on par with a normal PC. I earned my "The Token Experience" achievement and did both DLCs on Steam Deck without issues.
Performance
- I capped the FPS at 40. It was a great experience, and I didn't notice any of the numerous performance issues I encountered during my playthrough on Switch. The game played super smoothly with my Deck's fan quiet.
Controls
- If you're like me and play this game on literally every platform, you will have some muscle memory to overcome when going between Switch and Deck. (The buttons flip.) Just something to keep in mind. I played this game on both of those consoles at the same time, so it was hilarious.
Ubisoft Connect Woes
- Initial setup is awkward. Use Steam-X to bring up the keyboard. You might have to restart the "game" to get the actual game to start. This only happens once.
- When closing the game, use the in-game menu. Don't close with Steam, because this will immediately close Ubisoft Connect too, causing your saves to not sync with the cloud. You may have to "Abort" after the syncs finish.
- I left the game on overnight, with my Deck asleep. The next day, Ubisoft thought I was inactive, logged me out, and crashed the game. I didn't have to log back in. This happened twice.
Played the game start to finish, without any issues or hiccups. First I loaded up a cloud save, and then I played a new save. I used the default controls, and I found them intuitive and on par with kb+mouse in terms of intuitiveness. I played throughout the day, and the game resumed flawlessly whenever I woke up my Steam Deck.
I modified the unused L5 key to be CTRL, for easy moving of items and crafting. I adjusted the sensitivity in game and in the layout. I disabled gyro.
I was able to play my existing saves without issue on Steam Deck. I used a modified community layout. The game was able to load and save my Steam Cloud saves without issue. It sounded and played great.
I changed the refresh rate to 40 to keep the FPS at 40, and it played smoothly and quietly.
Was able to play through the entire game without issue. Used the touch screen, joysticks, and touch pads, and all three worked flawlessly.
Two cutscenes were completely mangled: incorrect colors, playback fps was low, and audio was distorted.
Overall
Overall, it was a fantastic experience. I had 0 issues with controls, audio, or performance. The control issues I encountered in previous games were non-existent. I used the touchscreen primarily, and the touchpad when I needed to be accurate.
Cutscene Issues
Two cutscenes were completely unwatchable for me: 1) the one from the perspective of the mannequin, and 2) the final cutscene. The video playback was distorted, as well as the audio.
When waking the Steam Deck from sleep, the audio was crackling.
Interactable elements would shake when interacted with.
Overall
I played through the entire game, and did all 4 endings. It played pretty good, except for the few issues I had.
Controls
For controls, the touch screen controls were a little finicky, specifically with click AND drag. Additionally, interactables in puzzles would shake when clicking and holding using the touch screen. I recommend trigger + touchpad for inventory items, and touch screen with interactables in puzzles. For inventory items, click then wait a half-second, then use the touch pad to drag it.
Audio
For audio, the speakers were crackling when waking up my Steam Deck from sleep. This didn't affect the speed or playback any of the music or sound effects, it was just crackling.
I played through the entire game in one sitting. I used the default controls, with the right touch pad as my mouse and the triggers as the mouse buttons. I also mixed in using the touch screen and joysticks depending on how accurate I needed to be. All worked fine except the touch screen controls were a little finicky sometimes, specifically with click AND drag.
I was able to play the entire gamme just fine with a Pro Controller. Didn't have to adjust any settings. Everything just worked.
Played through the game start to finish on Deck. I had 0 issues with contols, audio, or stability. I did notice that at 60fps the CPU was always at or near 100%, so I set the performance profile to limit to 30fps, and the CPU usage was minimal.
