You absolutely need to turn off post-processing
This problem was caused by post-processing
Very heavy framerate drops I did not expect from this hardware. I locked the framerate to 30fps in the quick menu on Steam and this seemed to help a little.
When you use your shrink potion, the entire screen turns black except for some elements. This can be fixed by turning off post-processing. Such a shame!
I didn't know this game didn't have more than 30fps to offer, and also didn't expect this many framedrops in certain areas. I also had to do some reddit research to find the solution to my shrink potion problem.
Map jump, use and crouch to back grips.
Blurry menus when they're loading, occasional stutter.
Absolutely does not start without forcing Proton. Otherwise works just as expected.
On Deck, in the compatibility menu, change the settings to experimental Proton. Otherwise, the game does not start. But that's all the tinkering I needed.
The game crashes if it's set to fullscreen. Change it to windowed in the launcher menu and the game boots normally.
The game runs perfectly fine with standard controller layouts and graphics settings. Make sure your resolution is set right and you could uncheck things you don't need for even better performance. So far I've had a very smooth experience.
Another report mentioned alt-entering out and changing settings. This is not possible on Steam Deck and seems to softlock the device in a certain way.
Added 'P' for 'pause' on the start button, 'Esc' for 'quit' on the select button. Mike Wiering made his own 'config' but these buttons are missing. Works well with a keyboard, too.
Unexpected, since its sequel won't boot. This plays just the way it should, without any problems with the resolution or audio so far. Works with Bluetooth keyboard as well as the on Deck controls.
Changed click from full trigger pull only to soft pull as well, because letting go of a token at the wrong moment happened a little too often with the standard settings
Just a little crunchier looking than I'm used to
Works perfectly, virtually right out of the box. If you've always wanted to play this with touch controls or on the couch, here ya go. It's the closest to a mobile port you'll probably ever get. No performance issues, really light on the battery and managed to play through the entire game twice without any hiccups.
Very easy to run, just needs some very minor in-game tweaks and controller layout settings to make it playable.
Change resolution, change to 'windowed' and use a mouse-only layout with button shortcuts.
Changed trackpad sensitivity, also changed some buttons to do escape and middle mouse button. There is a community layout, but it doesn't include middle mouse to open the phone.
Fullscreen didn't resize properly, so part of the interface wasn't visible. Change to windowed mode instead and put the resolution to the one closest to the deck. I believe it was 1200x7something.
When I started the game for the first time I had some graphical glitches where the tokens wouldn't 'shift' but just disappear. This was in the tutorial 'date'.
Genuinely love the match 3 mechanics of the first game, and this didn't disappoint. It's signficantly harder, but surprisingly playable with a trackpad. Touch is a bit wonky, don't bother unless you're playing the 'bonus round'. The visual novel aspects of this game are very straightforward and the menus are easy to navigate. I don't understand why this got 'unsupported'. Should have been 'playable'.
Very minor crackling happened once or twice.
The menu text is very low res but readable just fine.
Game turns into a complete slideshow at a certain indoors bullet heavy point early game. The game runs effortlessly at 60fps until then. PhysX needs to be turned off in the settings.
Works absolutely fine on the highest settings until you encounter places where glass breaks. Disable PhysX and you're set. Minor stuttering occurs when being shot at - keep this in mind.
The game is unstable on the Steam Deck for me, but maybe with some tinkering it could work. Problems with camera control and freezes.
Mouse only allowed me to rotate the camera about 180-340 degrees and would then be stuck until I rotated it in the opposite direction, as if the end of the screen was met. Trackpads did not have this issue as far as I know.
At first I had no problem starting the game, but after some updates from Steam OS I get very frequent to constant freezes on the login screen.
Login menu freezes but not at a specific moment. Sometimes after a mouse click, sometimes after using the on screen keyboard, sometimes after using a physical keyboard. Occasionally on its own.
If it works, medium-high graphics settings. The mouse problem I had with this game seemed to be either unique or rare. Needs more testing - I'm not proficient enough with Linux to make changes.
Mouse and keyboard will just not work - McGyvered it using a controller and keyboard at the same time.
Turned down most graphic settings from epic to high
Mouse seems to be restricted by the edge of the screen
Mouse camera movement does not work. It seems when you're moving your mouse, the camera can only rotate until you meet the 'edge of the screen', instead of rotating infinitely.
It works well on the deck itself, even surprising me with the graphics. Much better than a few versions back, which was highly unstable. But in order to play comfortably you'd have to remap pretty much all the buttons or use a mouse and keyboard, and the latter seems impossible for me.
Generally this game plays really nice with all kinds of devices. The graphics are a bit blurry but that's to be expected.
The game generally needs some button remapping. See what works best for you and what is most comfortable.
Some slowdown when you do an 'action' for the first time. Odd, and not sure if it was intended.
I've played this game for hours on Windows as a kid, and it generally runs the same. You might get a short launcher popup, but don't let that scare you. The game works just fine. Absolutely no problems encountered so far but there might be some allong the way. Will report on this again if it stops working.
Proton 6.something is the only version that works - but then there's absolutely no audio.
Constant crashes on any proton version but 6.xx
Either no sound or memory leak crashes. Absolutely unplayable.
If anyone has a solution, please dump it somewhere in a report. Thanks.
Download Proton 6.5-GE-1 - it's probably the only thing that makes this game run. In desktop mode, download ProtonUp-Qt and install this version of Proton. Then go back to Steam and force this version of Proton on Prototype. Found this solution thanks to CellTastic on Reddit.
Tweaked joystick deadzones to be a little smaller. Mouse gyro activated on right stick touch. Joystick gyro does NOT work well. No trigger dampening needed for gyro
This game is completely and perfectly playable on just the Deck with its own controls. Do note: If you touch the screen of the Steam Deck the camera will completely freak out and start spinning at high speeds from the top down.
Using a mouse and keyboard when playing on the Deck has given me similar results, making it unplayable. After that the joysticks stopped working, too, until I restarted the game.
The standard gyro settings were not usable. There will be mouse/keyboard prompts on your screen if you have your gyro set up like I did (mouse gyro on right stick touch), whenever you're touching the right joystick.
Some areas were very heavy to process, significant framerate drops, but not unplayable. Most of the game runs 60fps on medium-esque settings.
Keyboard and mouse on Deck give some problems. Might need tweaking some settings.
I had half-rate shading on, and that should definitely be turned off or all text in the game becomes crusty.
Played it on the couch with the Steam Link on. Worked just as expected. Surprisingly small games, so they fit on your Deck without any problem. No performance issues except for some stuttering when opening and closing your pause menu, but that even happened on the Wii.
Added pause button in a different place
Playing with sticks or pads might be a bit wonky. Use the physical buttons for better accuracy. Consider remapping some buttons.
Slowdown and stuttering like on older consoles or weaker PCs. This only happens when the screen gets really busy, for example with Monstro's Lung, Cricket's Body and the Guppy transformation or other 'auto room clear' combinations. Surprising and unexpected. Not even the Switch has slowdown this noticeable.
Due to the resolution of the screen, the Found Hud on the left side is a bit big and might block some of your screen. It's not too bad, but it caused a hit or two where it shouldn't have.
Accidentally long-pressing the left pad with the community controller layout I use almost caused some unwanted resets.
Tweaked gyro, added soft pull trigger dampening, general mouse sensitivity tweaks.
I changed the scaling in the ScummVM menu to HQ2x.
Change the scaling ('exit' the game through the ScummVM pause menu, go to settings), use a community layout. Runs very well. We had occasional black flashes when streaming to the Steam Link but otherwise it's perfect. This could be an issue with the Link and the resolution of the game or the framerate.
