PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 gamemoderun %command% was necessary to make this game run, even this being a "Steam Deck verified" game.
Proton-6.16-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
If I alternate some graphical setting, the resolution of the game decreases and everthing looks less sharp, I have a 1360x768 monitor, the only fix that I found to this problem is go to where your SteamLibary folder is located and proceed like this: /SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/692850/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/BloodstainedRotN/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor
When you reach the folder, earse all the files inside and start your game again, I hope see a permanent fix to this problem soon!
The problem that I said above about the game starts looks blurry, thats happen when you change something in the graphics.
Native version is borked in NVIDIA cards due fullscreen issues, Proton version have performance issues
Switched to Proton instead native version
Slowdowns a lot considering that this is a pixel art game
Plasma bar flickers (X11) and have a variation of this bug where the screen change size every time (Wayland) in some parts when using Proton in this game, but it's a Plasma only problem that can happen in some games (Maybe gamescope can solve it)
Beside the problems, it runs perfectly out of the box and are problems that can be fixed in newer Proton versions
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%
The "skill upgrade demonstration" videos are borked in the standard Proton version, ProtonGE fixes it
If you enable fullscreen without insert the listed commands, in the next time that you open the game, it will stuck in a black screen.
Sometimes the game have stutters a little bit, isn't frequent.
Playable, but in most part of the trials, you will have loading screen infinite loop.
Some stutters in full screen mode
Sometimes when I enter the game, it continues in the loading screen loop forever, until close the game.
Animated cutscenes don't work
Used PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 gamemoderun %command% launch flags, the first one fixes a serious problem with infinite loadings. Disabled the intro video the .ini files (Wine don't have the codecs to play it).
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%
The intro movie is borked, even with ProtonGE it doesn't works, you can disable it in (where your steamlibary folder is)/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/803600/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Nippon Ichi Software, Inc/Disgaea 5 Complete/1168863019/config.ini. Change the line "SkipMovie=0" to "SkipMovie=1".
Runs out fo the box, and now seems that Wayland can play the intro video with no problems
gamemoderun %command%
The intro video worked using Wayland, unfortunately, after the video be played, the 'fragments" remains on the screen until you finish your desktop session. But is probably a Wayland bug in Nvidia that will be fixed until the Fedora 36 release or after it.
Using Proton Experimental or recent releases of Proton-GE, makes the intro cutscene don't work properly, It's a problem with newer versions of Wine and Proton with games that use Unreal Engine 4. Soul Calibur VI have this issue with the menu screen.
Besides the "gamemoderun %command%", it runs perfectly out of the box (Experimental Proton isn't required to run it)
gamemoderun %command%
The listed command fixes occasional FPS drops, without it, you can get an worse performance.
I can say that this game runs very close to Windows in terms of performance, very enjoyable!
This definitely isn't a gold experience, typical gamers need to avoid it for now.
If you don't use "borderless windows", the textures looks very blurry.
Graphic degradation in fullscreen mode
(This is valid only to Proton experimental) You can't use your mouse to interact with the UI
RE Engine, Proton and my hardware seems to be a very bad combination, even in the lowest quality I still having stutters and slowdowns. This is valid to RE 7, RE 2 and probably to DMC 5 and RE 8 too.
The initial video, credits, or any video related stuff is borked, Proton GE seems to fix, but have a even worse performance.
It worked out of the box for sometime but now is borked and relate the annoying error of "your video card doesn't meet game requirements".
Tested in Linux Mint, POP_OS! and Manjaro, with the 470 and 510 drivers and with different Proton versions, the error continues appearing. I hope that it returns to work again soon.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=75 %command%
If you get an error like "your video card doesn't meet game requirements", erase the folder "41700" localized in (where your "SteamLibary folder is located)/SteamLibary/SteamApps/shadercache/
Versions of Proton above 5.13-6 have several frame-passing issues, firstly in monitors above 60hz
gamemoderun %command%
Usually, games that I tested in Proton have an diference of 3~5 fps in comparsion with Windows, this game have a diference of 20 in some parts, sometimes the game freezes and return, what is a problem in a shooter game. Parts of the city with more than 5 npc's have massive slowdowns.
When you close the game, Ubisoft Connect continues running, you need to manually finish the process.
No anticheat, no problems.
The used version of Proton-GE because is the only one that I got all the cutscenes working with audio, with Proton experimental, the final cutscene of some characters doesn't work, with newer Proton-GE version (7.0 or above), all cutscenes work but with no audio.
Besides the annoying problem with NVIDIA cards, I can't say that the game is unstable, is an enjoyable experience.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=45 gamemoderun %command%
Due a bug that this game have with NVIDIA cards, the performance with them decreases a lot compared to Windows in the same hardware. That's why I locked it in 45 FPS, to have more concistency in the gameplay. Keep in mind that sometimes it can go to the mid 30's.
There is what the dev of DXVK said about the issue: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/issues/1421#issuecomment-583851491
Also, Proton versions above the 6.3-8 tends to have slower FPS, firstly in the first map of the game with no reason, so, stick to this version to don't have issues.
My last review was positive, but considering the issues that I had, I don't recommend it in any way
This game doesn't run properly on NVIDIA cards due a game engine issue with DXVK and NVIDIA that probably will never be fixed: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/issues/1421#issuecomment-583851491.
In recents versions of Wine the performance drop in the cutscenes, in the chapter 3 have a cutscene named "Friendly Fire", were you can clearly see the frames droping to the 20's, in the start of some maps, like the "Milt Outskirts" (The first map and the one that you will see in some of the Squad Stories and in a Skirmish) you can also see almost a slideshow.
Any version of Wine above the 4.2-9 start lose performance in somewhere, in the cutscenes, in some maps, in some maps parts, is unenjoyable due the inconsistency, even in the version that I recommended, firstly considering that my hardware can handle this game very well.
The "friendly fire" cutscene continue having slower fps and stutters, but now instead of 19 fps it runs at 44 fps.
Terrible performance, firstly on NVIDIA cards
Got only 25 FPS in game, the only place where I got high fps was on the menus
