Added https://github.com/TellowKrinkle/atelier-sync-fix/releases/tag/atelier-sophie-20231022 d3d11.dll & used winecfg to set d3d11=n,b
. This should cause atfix.ini to be created on first run allowing better AA etc to be configured.
Works very well except the videos don't play and are replaced a placeholder.
However, there seem to only be 3 of them though stored in Atelier Sophie DX/Data/Win32/Movie/
where they can be watched directly. 2 placeholders play around the start of the game, presumably "opening.wmv" & "teaser.wmv". I haven't seen the 3rd video "ending.wmv" but I have a hunch when it'll play.
Added touchpad click and disabled secondary touchpad functions
Set refresh to 40Hz
Text is a little small, but readable.
Works well with a little controller customization.
I had some framerate issues with Wayland + vsync, disabling vsync solved this.
eval $(echo "%command%" | sed "s|2KLauncher/LauncherPatcher\.exe|MidnightSuns/Binaries/Win64/MidnightSuns-Win64-Shipping.exe|")
Generally good performance using d3d12. However, FPS tanks after every daily sparring session to <10 fps. I can fix this by toggling some video settings (like fsr quality) to something and then back again. Also happens after some hero ops, presumably connected to the art generation (although I never had a problem with mission art).
I also found having Above 4G Decoding / Resizable BAR enabled would cause degredation in performance, though on first startup would work fine. After some time the FPS would around half and become noticably slow. This still happened with various VKD3D & RADV settings to disable rebar, but doesn't occur with rebar disabled in the bios.
Disabling Above 4G Decoding / Resizable BAR in the bios gave me best performance.
Overall: The launcher prevents the game starting up, this requires a workaround. Otherwise it works very well with some minor performance issues.
I can hear the intro videos but not see them. The the loading screen appears, after that it crashes back to steam.
Works fine out of the box. Later on in some outdoor areas I had worse performance, PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 fixes this.
Almost works well.
Mouse sensitivity is too low to be usable. Mouse cursor appears in zStartupWindowed mode making that a poor experience.
Game freezes on exit, has to be killed pkill -KILL Gothic2
Videos/cutscenes are black in fullscreen mode. Windowed mode fixes this, but has other issues like mouse cursor always visible.
I installed the latest https://github.com/SaiyansKing/GD3D11/releases mod. The ran protontricks 1467450 winecfg
and added overrides for each mod dll file (anttweakbar.dll, ddraw.dll etc) in the "Libraries" tab.
In system/Gothic.ini scaleVideos=1
ensures the videos aren't little boxes. useQuickSaveKeys=1
enables quick save/load with F5/F9 (necessary as this is Gothic). Only fullscreen worked properly.
My mouse speed was far too slow in game. I had to reset it to a neutral OS speed before starting the game. I did this using the launch options.
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.mouse speed 0; %command%; gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.mouse speed -0.75
Running protontricks 251150 directshow
allowed the videos to work. The game otherwise works fine out of the box. In game videos: 1. Startup logo. 2. Intro movie shortly after starting a new game. 3. End game movies.
The game works fine except for videos. In game videos: 1. Startup logo. 2. Intro movie shortly after starting a new game. 3. End game movies.
Running protontricks 251150 directshow
allowed the logo video to work. Installing K-Lite Codec Pack Basic into the prefix allowed the intro movie to work.
In general the game works fine except for videos. Running protontricks 251290 directshow
& installing K-Lite Codec Pack Basic into the prefix allowed all videos to work. This worked perfectly for 55 hours, until 2 of the final boss fights caused a CTD "Unhandled exception: page fault". I moved past these sections by booting into windows. The final piece of gameplay and video worked fine.
All movies can work by installing the following extras
protontricks 538680 amstream quartz lavfilters
Workaround for "cp: cannot create regular file '...quartz.dll': Permission denied"
trash ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/538680/pfx/dosdevices/c:/windows/sys*/amstream.dll
trash ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/538680/pfx/dosdevices/c:/windows/sys*/quartz.dll

Movies can be fixed in a similar way to the previous game.
protontricks 748490 amstream quartz lavfilters
Workaround for “cp: cannot create regular file ‘…quartz.dll’: Permission denied”
trash ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/748490/pfx/dosdevices/c:/windows/sys*/amstream.dll
trash ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/748490/pfx/dosdevices/c:/windows/sys*/quartz.dll
Saves from the previous game can be imported when starting a new game, if they're copied to the new prefix
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/748490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved\ Games/FALCOM/ed8/
