Linux version borked after 2K launcher update; use Windows version+Proton. Great performance but infrequent crashes
eval $( echo "%command% -DisableTexturePool" | sed "s/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe'.*/Binaries\/Win32\/BioShockInfinite.exe'/" )
Chose the tweaks I wanted/needed from here: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/BioShock_Infinite
Sometimes when a new area begins to load, the game crashes. You can continue like normal after you restart the game.
Without any tinkering there's lag upon entering a new area and some textures are weirdly low res. To solve this I used the following tweaks from PCGamingWiki: -Enable GUI Scaling -Skip intro videos -Skip launcher (see launch options) -Stuttering during gameplay (see launch options) -Texture streaming quality problems -FPS dropping -Disable aim-assist
Works great with proton
About 2-3 crashes in 36 hours of playtime, something about graphics driver reset, idk. Not a problem because of frequent autosaves (thank god)
I got 40-60fps. A benchmark on youtube with the same CPU on Windows resulted in the same framerate, so probably just CPU bottleneck and not a proton issue. Most of the time I played with the newest GE-Proton7 version as well as with the launch parameters "DXVK_ASYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%", in hopes of increasing my fps. In the past few hours I've been playing with the default proton version and no launch parameters, which resulted in the exact same experience. So they are not needed.
Worse performance than on Windows. Once you get used to that it's just as enjoyable. Also crashes very rarely.
7.0rc3-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
No matter the settings, never constant 60+ FPS, unlike on Windows. But no big lagspikes. Once you get used to it, it's very playable.
Crashes do happen, but only rarely. Can finish most of my sessions without crashing.
Higher FPS in singleplayer for some reason.
Dropped native Linux support. So you're forced to use Proton for new stuff or to play with Windows friends. Works flawlessly though.
Flawless
Initial report after a bit over 1 hour of playtime to maybe help some people with the buying decision, as there's no other reviews at the time of writing. Will update if something changes.
FSR 2.0 is available for people with slower hardware.
Completed the whole game in online co-op without any problems
The game worked perfectly fine with Proton 7, but for some reason it does not launch with Proton 8. Run it with Proton Experimental or GloriousEggroll's GE-Proton8 instead, and you should have no problems.
Note that here I'm referring to the newest releases at the time of writing, which are Proton 8.0-2 for Valve and GE-Proton8-2 for GloriousEggroll.
This problem might be fixed in future releases of Valve's Proton, so try that first.
No complaints
Other reviews mention a crash/freeze when entering Yokohama 99 in chapter 1. I did not experience this.
Can't hit stable 60fps even on the lowest settings, frequently in the 30-40fps range
Only 1 minor problem with an easy fix. Else the game runs perfectly.
Using media keys (e.g. next song) has a chance of reducing FPS from 60 to a constant 40. This is fixed by switching to another application and back.
This bug occurred in every Proton version I tried. (Default, 6.3-8, Experimental, 7.1-GE-2)
The Repentance DLC does not support Linux, although the other DLCs and the base game do. So if you have the Repentance installed, you're forced to use Proton, else the game does not start.
--launcher-skip
Edit "launcher-configuration.json" in the game directory and set the following: "fallback": "DirectX 11"
Not kidding, using DirectX 11 instead of 12 almost doubled my fps
Performance too poor and unstable to enjoy the game.
Unable to reach 60FPS, no matter the settings (unlike in Windows). Sometimes huge lagspikes down to 0-1FPS. Performance too poor for me to enjoy the game.
