Forcing Steam Play/Proton. Game runs perfectly out of the box. The reason I chose Proton over the native build is because the native Linux build doesn't recognize any controller other than specifically Microsoft Xbox controllers, no generic xinput controllers, no Steam Controller, etc. The Windows version has no such limitation, and the developers even have a Steam Controller recommended configuration that mixes gamepad and keyboard & mouse controls. Their recommended configuration does not work with the Linux build, but forcing the game to use Proton, everything is working as anticipated, Steam Controller now works perfectly with gamepad inputs, mouse & keyboard inputs, or a mix of both.
Forced 40Hz/40fps, game preset on high, disabled motion blur. Mostly stable 40fps with occasional dips during menu or cutscene/victory screen loading. Races have been solid. Have not tried online races, but logged into Xbox account with no problem.
Infrequent freezes. Has not happened during a race, only in menu. Will test alternate Protons to see if that goes away.
Settings could be lowered to reach 60fps if desired, to me 40 feels great and it looks fantastic.
Need to install corefonts, either use Protontricks to do it just for the game, or use Winetricks and do it system wide (this is what I did). After that game runs great out of the box.
No tweaks required, game runs basically perfectly out of the box, but I'm giving it gold because of these 2 exceptions. 1) You can't log into multiplayer server. Not a big deal for me, I don't tend to play multiplayer unless it's co-op. 2) If you change any graphics settings the screen will freak out until you close and restart the game. The settings take effect, it's just a minor annoyance and something to keep in mind if you tend to constantly fidget with graphics settings.
Haven't had much time to play, but so far the out of box experience is perfect. Giving it gold until further play testing can be done, based on other reports (ie: exiting the game needing to kill process (did not experience this, myself), freezing video requiring ssh or tty to kill process (did not experience this, myself), etc.) I will update my report after I have some more play time.
Director's cut version. Linux native had no sound, switched to Windows version. However it was not registering any trigger pulls, every other gamepad button worked. Setting input to Keyboard (WASD) and Mouse works though, just lose analog movement. Also drop mouse sensitivity in-game to minimum and adjust to preference with Steam Input.
Set in-game mouse sensiivity to minimum, adjust to preference with Steam Input.
40Hz/40fps. Manually setting TDP or GPU even at maximum, drops game to 30fps. Leaving those unticked he game can get 60 with some graphics tweaks. Turning all the options on with some AA and AF was 45-50.
Linux natve had no audio, Windows version with Proton fixed that.
Controller worked 100% with Linux native. Windows version detected controler, all input except triggers worked. Changed to KB&M layout.
Seems the Linux an Windows saves are either not compatible, or they're in different locations
Changed to 40Hz/40fps
Game did not launch with nomal Proton, had to change to Experimental and worked great after that.
Forcing Steam Play/Proton because the Linux build has a bug with the Steam Controller support where the controller will not work in-game. Menus work fine, and changing to generic xinput controls work fine, but I want to use the native SIAPI support which works fine on the Windows build of the game. Steam Controller works perfectly with Rocket League using Steam Play/Proton.
I normally force Proton Experimental on all games by default, and that was working with this game until the latest update (today, 2025/04/24). I changed to Proton 9.0-4 to test, and was able to play again.
I play on a 32:9 ultrawide, had no issues with fullscreen, but for any streaming I need it in 16:9 and setting it to windowed mode only gave me 32:9 aspect ratio resolutions to choose from.
Fortunately you can drag the window borders into whatever ratio you want, and manually made it 16:9.
I have Proton Experimental set as the default for all games, and this game was working perfectly on that just a few days ago. But the new update seems to have broken something, I suspect with Easy Anticheat, because it kept booting me off of Xbox Live.
But switching back to the normally recommended Proton 9.0-4 I was able to get signed in and seems to be working fine.
Change graphics from default "highest" to "high", Set 40Hz/40fps
Default graphic options are good for 30+ fps, lowering to "high" settings is pretty stable 40, and works well for 40Hz.
The game runs perfectly out of the box, even SKSE works out of the box. Mods work, both from Steam Workshop and external sites like Nexus.
After patching FAudio from here: https://github.com/Kron4ek/FAudio-Builds the game runs perfectly. Even works great with mods that don't require SKSE64. Currently SKSE64 does not work, although there are patches that may fix it if you want to manually build your own custom Proton versions.
Forcing the game to run with Steam Play/Proton. Everything works perfectly out of the box, and actually has better performance than the native port. I get nearly the same performance as running it in Windows.
After applying Glorious Eggroll's fixes found here: https://gitlab.com/GloriousEggroll/warframe-linux/tree/steamplay-proton the game is running great.
