Recently the game started flatlining on startup
gamemoderun %command% --launcher-skip -skipStartupScreen
I have been able to play Cyberpunk 2077 on linux before. Recently the game started flatlining and I've tried pretty much everything I can think of but I'm unable to start the game.
So if you're looking for "install and play" experience, this isn't it anymore. It used to be. Given the time it has already taken me to troubleshoot this issue, I'm now going to uninstall the game and try again later.
gamemoderun %command%
Loading times take a bit longer compared to Windows. Not enough to bother me but it's noticeable.
Kenshi crashes and freezes when exiting the game and needs to be forced to quit. This happens on Windows too but I have a feeling it happens more often on Linux. Again, doesn't bother me.
Game worked well without any tinkering, so it's optional if you want to do some tinkering. I'm running 15 to 20 mods and there are no issues with them.
Random crackling sometimes
Playing in space;
Playable with minor issues. I had the game paused for about 15 minutes and after trying to hop back in the fps was all over the place. I had to restart the game which fixed the issue.
Playing on planets;
Unplayable. For example Lost Colony scenario starts but it immediately crashes. My cursor moves but the screen is black or then it shows the esc menu. What's weird is that there is no way for me to kill the process or alt+tab away from the black screen. I have to restart my whole computer to get back to the desktop.
Creating a custom scene and starting on alien planet works until I go outside. As soon as I see the land the game crashes the same way as I already described. I noticed that even while inside my fps wasn't nearly as stable as when I played in space.
I also tried different proton version but playing on planets didn't work.
This happens sometimes. Restarting the game fixes it.
I haven't played this game on Windows but given how well the game works I have a feeling the performance is same or at least very close to Windows.
If you like to restart the game 10 times before getting to mission, it's playable.
While the game is voxel based, I noticed that destroying lots of buildings etc has major impact on FPS. More than what I had when I played the game on windows
Game crashes frequently. Usually happens when you're starting a new mission, after Loading screen. West Point Marina seems to suffer from this the most. You can still play the missions but it takes a while since you have to restart the game like 8-10 times.
Maybe not significant but annoying. When you use your computer and open an email, the sender avatar goes wild. You can see bigger, stretched, avatar flickering behind the email.
I've tried multiple proton versions none of which are stable
turned on windowed mode in config.ini - game doesn't start on fullscreen
Can't start the game fullscreen. You can change it to windowed in the config.ini to start the game and then switch to fullscreen when you are in the game. You have to change it back to windowed before exiting the game unless you want to go edit the config.ini. This is a bit of a pain because when the game crashes you have to go edit the config.ini again.
Matches seem to work just fine. No dips in FPS, but during intros when the camera pans over the arena and crowd, I get around 20fps. Same thing when the match ends.
FPS is poor in MyRise too, during the cutscenes. So the issue is somehow related to cutscenes. I know those are locked to 30fps but I get way less.
With highest settings I get around 20-45fps in the benchmark.
I have played 2 hours. I've had 4 crashes. One in the main menu, one while creating a superstar (nice to lose the whole thing because of this), one while Saving my new superstar (which actually saved, so that's nice) and one when editing the moveset.
